From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Dale Stephens, second left, celebrates after giving Brighton the lead
46' - We are back underway at the Amex.
Palace boss Roy Hodgson has made one change at the break, replacing Andros Townsend with Sullay Kaikai.
50' - There's not been too much to report on in the early stages of the second half. Maybe a spot of VAR would spice things up a little.
Other than Liverpool vs Everton and Nottingham Forest vs Arsenal, the televised games this weekend have been dreadful.
58' - Dale Stephens finds Sam Baldock in an advanced position with a lovely lofted pass but the Brighton substitute can't make anything of the attack as his cross into the box is well blocked by Timothy Fosu-Mensah.
65' - Considering this game is supposed to be a derby of sorts, the attendance is massively disappointing.
There are just 14,507 people in the 30,750-capacity Amex Stadium tonight.
In fairness to the Palace fans, the away end is fairly full.
66' - Tomer Hemed almost doubles Brighton's lead from 12 yards but his left-footed effort deflects behind for a corner, which comes to nothing for the hosts.
GOAL! Brighton 1-1 Crystal Palace (Sako)
69' - Bakary Sako wins an aerial battle with Davy Propper around 25 yards from goal before bringing the ball under control and drilling a superb shot in off the far post.
That's a wonderful goal by Palace's best player so far tonight.
