Everton claimed their first win of the Premier League season as Neal Maupay’s first goal for the club was enough to defeat West Ham, who remain in the bottom three.

In a game that badly needed a goal, Maupay produced an excellent finish on the turn to give Frank Lampard’s side lift off at Goodison Park.

West Ham only woke up after going behind as substitute Said Benrahma hit the post and fellow replacement Maxwel Cornet tested Everton goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.

Cornet then had a chance to equalise late on after rounding Begovic but he could not convert from a tight angle as West Ham’s struggles in the Premier League continued.

The Hammers have won only one of their opening seven Premier League games under David Moyes, scoring just three goals, while Everton rise to 13th ahead of the international break.
