Said Benrahma darts inside from the right wing and whips a left-footed effort over to the back post.

The shot hits the inside of the upright with Asmir Begovic rooted to the spot and unfortunately for West Ham rebounds out of the goal and goes wide.

75 mins: Soucek floats a diagonal ball over to Coufal on the right side of the penalty area and the West Ham defender nods the ball into the six-yard box.

Tarkowski has time to deal with the ball but doesn’t realise that and hurriedly hooks it away.

Dwight McNeil comes on to replace Anthony Gordon.

72 mins: David Moyes continues to search for answers as he brings Michail Antonio off and replaces him with Gianluca Scamacca up front.

68 mins: West Ham’s substitutes combine on the left wing as Cornet sends Benrahma sprinting to the byline. He looks to cross the ball but there’s a huge roar from the Everton fans as the ball runs out of play before Benrahma hits it.

The incident was spotted by the officials and the Toffees are awarded a goal kick.

65 mins: It’s a vital interception from Bowen who stops Iwobi’s pass out to Mykolenko. The Everton left-back had so much space ahead of him that the move would certainly have ended in a cross/chance on goal.

62 mins: Antonio is fed up to the byline on the left side and pulls the ball onto the box for Bowen who takes a touch and shoots but is denied by Tarkowski once again.

Maxwel Cornet and Said Benrahma are then introduced by David Moyes who takes off Lucas Paqueta and Pablo Fornals.

59 mins: A quick throw in sends Jarrod Bowen in behind Vitaly Mykolenko who’s left sprawled on the floor after knocking the ball out of play.

Bowen drives into the box and should cut it back to Michail Antonio but instead goes for goal and has his shot blocked by James Tarkowski.

56 mins: Naturally the goal has sparked some life into the game now as West Ham try to respond and Everton make use of the extra space.

The opener was also Maupay’s first goal for Everton and it’s come at a crucial time.
