Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Aymeric Laporte and Sergio Aguero struck as Manchester City twice came from behind to qualify for the Champions League last 16 with a 2-2 draw at Lyon.
The outstanding Maxwel Cornet grabbed both goals for the hosts, who outplayed the Premier League champions for large spells at the Groupama Stadium.
The Ivory Coast forward opened the scoring in the 55th minute and restored the lead after Laporte's first equaliser, but Aguero had the final word.
The result was enough to ensure City will play in the knockout stages, but they will have to wait until the visit of Hoffenheim next month to try to secure top spot in Group F.
Given the way the game unfolded, City will be glad to be leaving France with a result.

Prediction...
Lyon 2-3 Manchester City.
Lyon 2-2 Manchester City, 88 minutes
Martin Terrier replaces double goalscorer Maxwel Cornet as the hosts make their final change in France.
Phil Foden appears to be readied for a Manchester City alteration, but it won't happen just yet.
Lyon 2-2 Manchester City, 90 minutes
Two added minutes at the Groupama Stadium.
Foden will come on for the stoppage time. Sergio Aguero looks to have notched City a point and is replaced.
Manchester United 0-0 Young Boys, 89 minutes
If anything, Young Boys are the team looking more likely to score.
Ulisses Garcia is flagged offside pressing forward from left wing back. Just minutes left.
Full time in Lyon - Manchester City are through! A 2-2 draw is enough and Pep Guardiola's team will be in the knockout stages.
GOAL! Manchester United 1-0 Young Boys (Marouane Fellaini, 90 minutes)
There it is!
A long ball to Marouane Fellaini in the box, who uses his size to prevent the Young Boys defender reaching it.
It is a lovely piece of skill from the big Belgian, controlling the ball deftly with the side of his foot and firing accurately into the corner on the turn to surely snatch victory and progression for Manchester United.
Manchester United 1-0 Young Boys, 90 + 2 minutes
Oooooh, there was the slightest of touches off Fellaini's hand as he controlled that ball. A little lucky, but Manchester United won't care.
The full time whistle blows - Manchester United are through! Marouane Fellaini's late goal secures a 1-0 win and, when coupled with Valencia's 1-0 defeat in Turin, Jose Mourinho's men join their cross-city rivals in the last-16.
Manchester United really had to fight for that. David De Gea's sublime second half save, somehow managing to claw the ball off the line from a deflected shot, was absolutely crucial.
Let's round up all the results from around Europe...
FULL TIME SCORES
AEK Athens 0-2 Ajax
CSKA Moscow 1-2 Viktoria Plzen
Bayern Munich 5-1 Benfica
Lyon 2-2 Manchester City
Hoffenheim 2-3 Shakhtar Donetsk
Roma 0-2 Real Madrid
Juventus 1-0 Valencia
Manchester United 1-0 Young Boys
So by my reckoning, that's Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Ajax, Manchester City, Real Madrid, Roma, Juventus and Manchester United through to the last-16 already.
Tasty.
