From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Aymeric Laporte and Sergio Aguero struck as Manchester City twice came from behind to qualify for the Champions League last 16 with a 2-2 draw at Lyon.

The outstanding Maxwel Cornet grabbed both goals for the hosts, who outplayed the Premier League champions for large spells at the Groupama Stadium.

The Ivory Coast forward opened the scoring in the 55th minute and restored the lead after Laporte's first equaliser, but Aguero had the final word.

The result was enough to ensure City will play in the knockout stages, but they will have to wait until the visit of Hoffenheim next month to try to secure top spot in Group F.

Given the way the game unfolded, City will be glad to be leaving France with a result.

Prediction...

Lyon 2-3 Manchester City.

Lyon 0-0 Manchester City, 43 minutes

What an effort from Maxwel Cornet!

He missed a huge opportunity earlier, but this time somehow hooks the ball acrobatically with force into the ground, but agonisingly it shoots off the floor and against the crossbar, allowing Manchester City to clear.

A good ball in to find him from Memphis Depay and a stunning effort that deserved a goal. Lyon have been the bigger goal threat in the first half but it remains goalless.

Half time in Lyon. The home side have had their chances with both Memphis Depay and Maxwel Cornet missing in opportune moments, but it remains 0-0.

Manchester United 0-0 Young Boys, 45 + 1 minutes

A massive chance just before half time for the visitors.

Djibril Sow tries a back-heel after being found six yards out. He had teammates behind him in better positions and should have done better with his effort, anyway.

Half time at Old Trafford, too. And the crowd goes mild. A deafening silence as the whistle blows and Jose Mourinho trudges down the tunnel. No goals in Manchester.

Not great halves from either Manchester club, in truth.

Lyon could be ahead in France, while United have failed to sparkle once again at home.

The second halves will soon be underway.

Harry Latham-Coyle27 November 2018 21:01

And they are indeed back underway in Lyon. No changes

Harry Latham-Coyle27 November 2018 21:02

Resumption at Old Trafford, too. Steve von Bergen was in some discomfort at the end of the first half and has not emerged for the second. Ulisses Garcia comes on in his place, and it appears the Swiss side have gone to a back three. Young Boys lose their captain and most experienced centre-half.

Harry Latham-Coyle27 November 2018 21:06

Lyon 0-0 Manchester City, 50 minutes

No early chances of which to speak in Lyon.

City have plenty of attacking thrust on the pitch but as of yet they haven't managed to combine effectively.

Harry Latham-Coyle27 November 2018 21:08

Manchester United 0-0 Young Boys, 49 minutes

Fred tries an expansive pass down the middle but doesn't quite get the trajectory right, while Marcus Rashford was offside, anyway.

Young Boys don't look particularly threatened by their opponents at the moment.
