From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

It took Dybala just seven minutes to open the scoring, curling home a low shot from the edge of the six-yard box.
He then doubled the Italian champion's advantage when he struck again, angling a first-time shot beyond Marc-André ter Stegen from outside the penalty area.
Barcelona pushed in search of an away goal but conceded again in the second-half, as Giorgio Chiellini climbed above Javier Mascherano at a corner to head home.

Juventus: 33/20
Barcelona: 7/4
Draw: 47/20
37 mins: It's not been a good day at the office for Messi so far...
39 mins: A good chance for Barcelona as a corner is flung into the box, the ball travelling right the way across the face of goal without being cleared. Pique looks to attack it at the back post but Buffon beats him to it, plucking the ball away from danger and clearing.
41 mins: Khedira storms forward on the counter for Juventus and has the time and space to pick out a good pass with Dybala and Higuain both in central positions - but his weak cut-back is intercepted.
Barcelona bring the ball forward through Iniesta, who looks to thread a pass through to Suarez, but gets too much on it. Goal-kick.
43 mins: Dybala snatches up a loose ball and looks to break, but Mascherano cynically hauls him down. Curiously, he escapes without a booking.
Juventus take the free-kick short and Mandzukic passes to Higuian in space on the edge of the box. The ball bobbles up just before the Argentinian can control it but he improvises brilliantly, taking a touch with his instep before belting a half-volley at Ter Stegen.
The German is able to push the ball away and Mascherano smashes it out for a corner.
44 mins: Barcelona clear the corner but Bonucci almost connects with a header at the back post when the ball is whipped back into the box! Instead it skims off the top of his head and runs out for a goal-kick.
H/T: Juventus 2 Barcelona 0
And that's the half! There's absolutely no additional time, and Juventus lead 2-0 at the break.
Half-time stats:
Possession: Juventus 30%-70% Barcelona
Shots: Juventus 8-5 Barcelona
Shots on target: Juventus 5-1 Barcelona
Corners: Juventus 2-2 Barcelona
Fouls: Juventus 15-8 Barcelona
46 mins: Here we go! Juventus get us underway for the second-half and Barcelona have made one half-time sub: Andre Gomes on for Jeremy Mathieu.
47 mins: Drama from the off! Neymar is played in by Messi but is stopped by a wonderful sliding tackle from Bonucci. He timed that to perfection, get that one wrong and he would have almost certainly be sent off.
Messi seizes the loose ball and attempts to bend one around Buffon, but fires wide.
49 mins: It's been an end-to-end start to the second-half. Another defence-splitting through ball from Messi finds Suarez, and the striker's first-touch is superb, sending him through on Buffon.
But the veteran keeper is off his line in expert fashion, smothering the ball before Suarez can shoot.
