England vs Brazil LIVE: Result and final score after late Endrick goal in Wembley friendly tonight
England 0-1 Brazil:The 17-year-old forward Endrick came off the bench to score the winner at Wembley, as Gareth Southgate’s side suffered their first defeat since December 2022
England suffered their first defeat since the Qatar World Cup as a late winner from 17-year-old forward Endrick earned Brazil a deserved 1-0 friendly win at Wembley.
Brazil went closest in the first half, hitting the post through Lucas Paqueta, and took the lead in the 80th minute as substitute Endrick tapped in after Vinicius Jr’s shot was saved by Jordan Pickford.
Paqueta was fortunate not to receive a second yellow card after one of several fouls on Bellingham - while another concern for Southgate would have been Kyle Walker joining his lengthy injury list ahead of Tuesday’s match against Belgium.

Endrick gives England and Gareth Southgate another issue to solve before Euro 2024
After the controversy about the new England shirt, the concerns about the players wearing it. After the needless culture wars, the more pertinent footballing decisions that beckon for Gareth Southgate. A year that could end 58 of hurt for England began with a first defeat since the 2022 World Cup quarter-final and a performance to ward off suggestions they should be favourites for Euro 2024.
A glamour game did not live up to its billing, but the excitement was provided by a weakened Selecao team. On a night when many a young England player hoped to take a make an indelible mark, the rookie to etch his name into history was instead Endrick, the 17-year-old who became the youngest scorer in a senior international at Wembley. For their rather more experienced manager, Dorival Junior, a 26th and most prestigious job brought an ideal start.
But England’s display was less jogo bonito than jogo mediocre. The players who needed to play well didn’t; or not to the extent of resolving Southgate’s selection dilemmas for the summer. Paper aeroplanes were being flung in the crowd, but too few players booked their place on the flight to Germany.

Jude Bellingham’s kicking against Brazil sends England a Euro 2024 warning
Jude Bellingham in full flow was a sight Wembley was starting to get used to. Leaning forwards, ball almost dangling from his stretched toes, dynamic yet in perfect balance. Then Brazil arrived. The beautiful game? Joga Bonito? Not tonight. Instead, meet the tactical foul: the sight of Bellingham laid out on his back proved a rather more frustrating image during this 1-0 defeat.

More questions for Gareth Southgate, but Tuesday presents an immediate opportunity to answer some.
Belgium will be a different test, but another that England should win. Much of the squad will be desperate to put tonight’s result behind them.

A pretty tepid performance from England overall, with a lot more needed in attack. Perhaps understandable since Kane was missing, but few of those who were playing for a place gave a great account of themselves.
Ezri Konsa played well when called upon, while Rice and Bellingham were as reliable as ever. Gordon, despite playing well, gave nothing to suggest that he has the quality – at this stage in his career – to start at an international tournament.
Gomez gave a good reminder of his reliability, while the other defenders did nothing to suggest that the usual back four would change ahead of Euro 2024.
In midfield, Gallagher gave a disappointing performance, while Rashford failed to make an impact during his time on the pitch. Kobbie Mainoo, on the other hand, showed what he can provide that Gallagher cannott always: a bit of calm in possession and the ability to beat a man.

For England, attention turns to Tuesday’s game against Belgium at Wembley. The home side will need to play better to beat the Belgians, who drew 0-0 with the Republic of Ireland earlier this evening.
Their last two games before the start of the summer tournament are against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Iceland, before they kick off the tournament against Serbia on 16 June.
For Brazil, they carry on preparations for the Copa America against Spain on Tuesday. Their final two games before the competition are against Mexico and the USA, both of whom they could well face at the latter stages.
They start their Copa campaign on 25 June, though they don’t yet know their opponent.

Harry Kane will return to Munich and will miss England’s friendly against Belgium, while Gareth Southgate could also be without Kyle Walker for Tuesday’s match.
England captain Kane was at Wembley to watch the 1-0 defeat to Brazil but his ankle injury is sufficiently serious to rule him out of their next friendly. “He’ll go back. He won’t be fit for Tuesday,” said Southgate.
Walker wore the armband in the absence of Kane and Jordan Henderson but the Manchester City defender went off in the first half.
And Southgate added: “He’s not had many injuries, so he himself isn’t sure whether it’s just tightness. I suspect if he’s feeling it, it’s a little bit more than that but we’ll know a bit more over the next 24 and 36 hours.”
Henderson and Cole Palmer might both be fit for the Belgium game and Southgate said: “The two boys trained today so they’ve come through that OK. They should join the group that will train tomorrow and we’ll go from there with that.”

More comments from Southgate
Here’s some more of what Southgate was saying to Channel 4 after the game.
On Gordon, he says the winger “was excellent both sides of his game”, while Chilwell “was aggressive in his defending and gave us that width”.
“We have to manage him carefully so him, [Harry] Maguire, Jude [Bellingham], we needed to physically to get them off the pitch so that didn’t help the rhythm of the game.”
Regarding Walker’s injury, he says he doesn’t know how bad it is.
“He is feeling something but he is not a player that is injured very often so he is not quite certain what it is so we will have to assess it over the next couple of days.”
Southgate later confirmed to the media that Harry Kane will return to Germany to continue his recovery from injury.

Southgate speaks to Channel 4
The England manager is first to speak to the media after the game.
He says that England “controlled the game in parts” and had “as many attempts on goal” as their opponents, but “in the end it’s that ruthless moment that decides the game”.
He adds that there were some “really important individual performances for us” and praises both Ben Chilwell and Anthony Gordon.
When asked if that is the kind of game that England need to prepare for tournaments, he calls it a “classic game against a South American team”.
“In competition, there are probably more cards given, and that affects the flow of the game.
“ I’m really happy with a lot of that performance.
“When you lose, it turns negative, but you’ve got to have context.”

FULL-TIME: England 0-1 Brazil
A slightly chastening defeat for England, who certainly expected to get a positive result from this game.
Team selection is somewhat irrelevant due to absences and the nature of the friendlies, but there will be question marks over whether certain players have enough to start in Germany during Euro 2024.
For Brazil, an undeniably positive result. Even if they had drawn, they were impressive in parts despite missing several first-team players. Endrick has obviously announced himself on the world stage, but Vini Jr, Rodrygo and Paqueta all put in particularly impressive performances.
