Brighton completed a remarkable comeback victory over Tottenham to continue their unbeaten home start to the Premier League season.

Fabian Hurzeler’s hosts had appeared bound for defeat after Spurs seized control of the contest with two first-half goals, but roared back after the interval to strike thrice in 20 minutes and swing the game their way. Danny Welbeck headed home to complete the turnaround after Yankuba Minteh and Georginio Rutter had restored Brighton to level pegging. It had threatened to be another tough day for Hurzeler’s side after yet more defensive lapses allowed Brennan Johnson and James Maddison to pounce, but a stirring turnaround lifts them above their opponents and into the top six.

Johnson’s goal meant the Welshman had scored in six successive games but Ange Postecoglou sorely missed absent captain Son Heung-min as his side collapsed. The Australian will have plenty to chew over during the international break as he looks to restore order.

Re-live all of the action from the Amex Stadium below:

Brighton 3-2 Tottenham, 70 minutes

How Tottenham must be missing Heung-min Son in a moment like this. They’ve looked a little short of leadership in this second half. What’s Ange Postecoglou’s option at this juncture? Look to the youngsters who went so well against Ferencvaros?

Tottenham have lost any semblance of calm and composure. Two players are booked in quick succession, with Dejan Kulusevski forced to chop down Kaoru Mitoma like a covering flanker. What a remarkable turnaround!

GOAL! BRIGHTON 3-2 Tottenham (Danny Welbeck, 66 minutes)

Can you believe it? Brighton have roared back to lead 3-2!

Three goals in 20 second-half minutes and the Amex Stadium is rocking! Georginio Rutter somehow contorts his way past four Spurs defenders to fashion a cross, and Danny Welbeck has the freedom of the Tottenham penalty area to head home. Away he gambols in glee as the frown spreads further to the fringes of a furious Ange Postecoglou’s face.

Brighton 2-2 Tottenham, 65 minutes

Brighton have come from two behind to win just once in their last 79 times facing a two-goal deficit. They look the likelier victors at the moment.

Yankuba Minteh now draws a corner and urges the home crowd to lift the noise. They duly oblige as he wanders over to take.

His delivery is disappointingly deep, allowing Spurs a moment to settle.

How the complexion of this contest has changed. Tottenham looked to be cruising at the interval, but they’ve been off the pace since the resumption with Ange Postecoglou grumbling and grunting his disapproval on the touchline.

They almost concede another chance to Kaoru Mitoma, with the crowd properly into this now.

GOAL! BRIGHTON 2-2 Tottenham (Georginio Rutter, 58 minutes)

Brighton are level!

What a start to the second half! It’s lovely feet from Georginio Rutter, nimbly skipping between Destiny Udogie and Micky van de Ven to create enough room to drag a shot across Guglielmo Vicario and into the corner.

Joel Veltman hurts himself as he makes an unorthodox tackle on Destiny Udogie, using his hipbone to dislodge the Tottenham defender from the ball. It looks a slightly sore one for the Dutchman, who levers himself to his feet and will run it off.

Spurs just need to settle into this second half, the visitors having been slow off the mark after the interval. Having started the game so superbly, a theme of their season, that was a bit of a surprise.

GOAL! BRIGHTON 1-2 Tottenham (Yankuba Minteh, 48 minutes)

Just what Brighton needed!

A horrible error from Destiny Udogie and Yankuba Minteh pounces! A cross from the left from Kaoru Mitoma bounces at an awkward height for Udogie, who only succeeds in squeezing the ball between his inner thighs as he tries to clear. Minteh pounces and produces a simple finish - Brighton have life!
