Brighton vs Chelsea LIVE: Premier League result and final score tonight after Adam Webster goal earns point
Brighton 1-1 Chelsea: Thomas Tuchel’s side drop further points as winless Premier League run extends to four games
Follow live reaction after Chelsea dropped points for the fourth Premier League match in a row as they were held to a 1-1 draw by an impressive Brighton side at the Amex Stadium. Adam Webster’s bullet header from a corner pulled Brighton level on 59 minutes after Hakim Ziyech had given Chelsea the lead against the run of play midway through the first half.
The result means Chelsea are still yet to win a Premier League match in 2022 and it leaves them 12 points behind leaders Manchester City, who beat them 1-0 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, while having played a game more. Thomas Tuchel’s side are also a point behind Liverpool having played two games more than the second-placed side.
Chelsea were often second-best to Brighton and struggled to create many chances against Graham Potter’s side. Ziyech’s opener was a deflected strike from distance and Romelu Lukaku had another quiet game before being substituted on 79 minutes. Follow live reaction from Brighton vs Chelsea below:
Elsewhere in the Premier League
Burnley were due to face Watford in another Premier League game tonight but the match at Turf Moor has been postponed because of a high number of players with injuries and Covid-19 in Burnley’s squad.
Sean Dyche’s side had requested postponement on Monday, saying there were only 10 first-team players in training and a Premier League statement offered an apology acknowledging that postponements ‘disappoint clubs and fans.’
This is the second time the fixture has been postponed as it was originally due to be played in December but was called off originally because of an outbreak at Watford.
Brighton vs Chelsea: Team changes
Graham Potter makes three changes to the Brighton team that drew 1-1 with Crystal Palace last time out. Neal Maupay and Leandro Trossard drop to the bench with Adam Lallana out through injury. Danny Welbeck, Tariq Lamptey and Steven Alzate are the three men to come in.
Thomas Tuchel also makes three changes to the Chelsea team that lost 1-0 to Manchester City at the weekend. Mason Mount and Callum Hudson-Odoi are recalled with Jorginho partnering N’Golo Kante in the midfield. Malang Sarr, Christian Pulisic and Mateo Kovacic drop out of the starting XI.

Brighton vs Chelsea: Everton appoint Ferguson amid Potter and Lampard links
Everton have announced that Duncan Ferguson has been appointed as caretaker manager for the Club’s upcoming games.
Ferguson will be supported by John Ebbrell and Leighton Baines, along with goalkeeping coach Alan Kelly.
It is the second time Ferguson has taken caretaker charge at the club, having guided the Blues to five points from three league games against Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal in December 2019.
An announcement on a permanent managerial appointment will be made in due course with the Club being linked with ex-Chelsea boss Frank Lampard, Derby manager Wayne Rooney, and Brighton boss Graham Potter.
Brighton vs Chelsea: Recent results
Brighton are sitting pretty in ninth place in the Premier League and are looking to move level on points with Wolves (8th). Last time out they had 19 shots against Crystal Palace but couldn’t find the target. Conor Gallagher gave the visitors the lead with 20 minutes to play and the Seagulls were rescued by a late own goal from Joachim Andersen to draw 1-1.
Chelsea have only won one of their last six Premier League games, with one defeat and four draws. That run has seen them drop 13 points behind league leaders Manchester City and seemingly out of the title race. Three points tonight will give Thomas Tuchel’s men hope that they can claw back some ground on City but they will need to have an almost perfect run in if they are going to overcome that deficit.
Brighton vs Chelsea: Graham Potter happy at ‘ambitious’ Brighton after links to Everton job
Brighton boss Graham Potter insists he is very happy at one of the Premier League’s “best-run clubs” amid reports linking him with the vacant Everton job.
The Toffees are searching for a new manager after sacking Rafael Benitez following just one win from 13 top-flight games.
Potter, whose contract runs until the summer of 2025, has impressed since arriving at the Amex Stadium in 2019 and has the Seagulls flying high in ninth place ahead of Tuesday’s visit of Chelsea.

Brighton vs Chelsea: Potter not going anywhere
Following the sacking of Rafa Benitez from Everton on Sunday rumours have been spreading about the next manager for the Merseyside club.
Former England stars Frank Lampard and Wayne Rooney are apparantly both high on the shortlist and there was talk of Brighton manager Graham Potter, possibly switching Premier League clubs.
Potter has done a more than admirable job at Brighton and many feel his next move, when it comes, will be to one of the bigger clubs in the Premier League.
However, before the rumours got out of hand Potter, who has been on the last two shortlists, ruled himself out of the running, saying he believes he is at “one of the best-run football clubs in the Premier League, with a fantastic owner, chairman, CEO, sports director”.
Brighton vs Chelsea: Thomas Tuchel explains decision to bench Mason Mount against Man City
It was a little surprising when Thomas Tuchel named Chelsea’s starting XI for their crucial Premier League fixture against Manchester City to see Mason Mount’s name on the bench.
Mount has been in good touch scoring seven goals and making six assists in the league campaign so far and would have wanted to play in such a big game - one that had potentially decisive ramifications for Chelsea’s title race.
Tuchel revealed that the decision to start Mount on the bench was a tactical one and it did not go down well with the midfielder. Tuchel said:
I get them and this is absolutely normal and it’s still within Mason’s character of kindness and being polite and being respectful. So there is no harm in this, but I get the eyes, I get the look, of course,
“He is here to play these kinds of matches, but we were simply opting for runners. We thought we could break the line more often with Hakim [Ziyech] as a left-footer on the left side and going for Christian [Pulisic] on the right side because the arrival of Christian in the box is normally a bit more offensive and he is a bit more of a runner than Mason.
“We expected the spaces more behind the last line, not in front of the back four of City. So that was the decision.’
It will be interesting to see if Mount starts against Brighton tonight. The team news is out in around 20 minutes time.
Brighton vs Chelsea: Tariq Lamptey targeting full return for Brighton against former club Chelsea
Brighton boss Graham Potter is hopeful Tariq Lamptey will be fit to face former club Chelsea after suffering an injury setback ahead of the 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace.
Seagulls defender Lamptey was a surprise omission from Albion’s starting XI for Friday evening’s clash with the Eagles due to a slight groin issue.
The England Under-21 international managed a lively second-half cameo as a late Joachim Andersen own goal prevented Palace snatching victory courtesy of Conor Gallagher’s seventh strike of the season.

The 21-year-old only returned to Premier League action in October following a 10-month absence.
Brighton vs Chelsea: Injuries and absentees
Tariq Lamptey may start for Brighton after coming on as a substitute at the weekend following a groin issue but Lewis Dunk, Shane Duffy and Adam Lallana will miss out.
Yves Bissouma and Enock Mwepu are also missing from the Brighton squad.
For Chelsea, Trevoh Chalobah, Reece James and Ben Chilwell continue their recoveries from respective injuries while Andreas Christensen misses out with Covid-19.
