Brighton vs Chelsea LIVE: Premier League result and final score tonight after Adam Webster goal earns point
Brighton 1-1 Chelsea: Thomas Tuchel’s side drop further points as winless Premier League run extends to four games
Follow live reaction after Chelsea dropped points for the fourth Premier League match in a row as they were held to a 1-1 draw by an impressive Brighton side at the Amex Stadium. Adam Webster’s bullet header from a corner pulled Brighton level on 59 minutes after Hakim Ziyech had given Chelsea the lead against the run of play midway through the first half.
The result means Chelsea are still yet to win a Premier League match in 2022 and it leaves them 12 points behind leaders Manchester City, who beat them 1-0 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, while having played a game more. Thomas Tuchel’s side are also a point behind Liverpool having played two games more than the second-placed side.
Chelsea were often second-best to Brighton and struggled to create many chances against Graham Potter’s side. Ziyech’s opener was a deflected strike from distance and Romelu Lukaku had another quiet game before being substituted on 79 minutes. Follow live reaction from Brighton vs Chelsea below:
Brighton 0 - 1 Chelsea
59 mins: An hour player at the Amex Stadium. There’s a relatively sedate tempo to the game unless either team breaks on the counter-attack and then the players burst forward.
Azpilicueta links up with Lukaku and whips a cross in from the right side. The ball drops over Hudson-Odoi but bounces out to Alonso. He shoots and has his effort blocked.
Brighton pass it quickly to Lamptey who flies into the vacant space left by Alonso. The Chelsea left-back sprints after him and hacks Lamptey down in the middle of the pitch picking up a yellow card in the process.
Brighton 0 - 1 Chelsea
57 mins: Marcos Alonso and Tariq Lamptey get into a bit of a tussle as Brighton attempt to take a throw in deep in Chelsea’s half and the referee comes over to tell them to quit it. The throw in wins the Seagulls a corner but Chelsea deal with it well.
Brighton 0 - 1 Chelsea
54 mins: Lukaku gets the ball and lays it quickly off to Mount who threads a pass in between the Brighton centre-backs as Ziyech runs in behind. He sprints towards the ball but Sanchez is out quickly. The ball rolls into the box and the Brighton goalkeeper wins the race and gets low to smother it. Ziyech looked offside anyway.
Brighton 0 - 1 Chelsea
51 mins: Great defending from Thiago Silva. Hudson-Odoi brings the ball down the left side and attempts to play it up the pitch but his pass is intercepted. Brighton send the ball to MacAllister who floats it into the box for Welbeck. He brings it down and heads towards goal but is matched stride of stride by Thiago Silva. He gets to the striker just as he’s about to shoot and shoves him off the ball before passing it out from the back for Chelsea.
Brighton 0 - 1 Chelsea
48 mins: A Chelsea corner is headed out as far as Ziyech. He ball bounces up nicely for him and he’s encouraged to shoot from range. He drills another left-footed effort but gets charged down by Gross.
Second half: Brighton 0 - 1 Chelsea
Kick off: Chelsea have never been behind at half-time in any Premier League game this season.
Chance! Brighton get the match restarted and immediately break Chelsea down. Gross threads the ball in behind the centre-backs and plays in Welbeck. He shoots from the left side of the box but smokes his effort into the side netting!
Brighton 0 - 1 Chelsea
Graham Potter will be disappointed that his team are behind but he’ll be happy with the performance that they’ve put in. Take away the score and Brighton have been the better of the two teams.
Chelsea aren’t at their best, they look a little leggy and have hardly given the ball to Romelu Lukaku. If the Seagulls can get the next goal they could go on to win this game.

Brighton 0 - 1 Chelsea
All four of Hakim Ziyech’s Premier League goals for Chelsea have come away from home, netting at Turf Moor, the Etihad Stadium, Vicarage Road and now the Amex Stadium.
Half-time: Brighton 0 - 1 Chelsea
45+1 mins: Chelsea defend a Brighton corner to bring the match into half-time. Brighton’s early pressure hasn’t worked out for them after Hakim Ziyech’s long-ranged effort has given the Blues a one goal lead going into the break.
Chelsea have been far from their best but that has been down to Brighton’s discipline and pressure. If the Seagulls were more clinical in the final third Chelsea would have a game on their hands.
