Manchester United suffered an embarrassing 4-0 defeat to Brentford as Erik ten Hag’s second game in charge resulted in one of the club’s worst results in their Premier League history.

United have now lost both of their opening Premier League matches under Ten Hag but the club plunged to new depths as a brilliant Brentford side raced into a four-goal lead inside 34 minutes.

Brentford took the lead after only 10 minutes thanks to a mistake by David De Gea, with the United goalkeeper at fault again as Mathias Jensen doubled the lead.

Brentford were 3-0 up within half an hour when Ben Mee bundled the ball home at the far post from a corner and it was 4-0 five minutes later when Ivan Toney teed up Bryan Mbeumo to finish past De Gea.

Relive the action and follow the reaction from the Brentford Community Stadium below:

GOAL! Brentford 2-0 Manchester United

Jensen again! United all over the place, it’s 2-0!

It’s the way Ten Hag wants to play, but De Gea’s ball is dangerous.

Eriksen is attacked immediately, a swarming press and Jensen grabs the ball inside the United box, turns, then slides the ball into the corner.

Wild scenes in Brentford. 2-0.

Brentford 1-0 Manchester United

Maguire with a clumsy challenge on Mbeumo, he could get a red without the covering Martinez.

Jensen bends the free-kick up and it’s just over.

Brentford 1-0 Manchester United

United almost hit back immediately, Shaw to Sancho, and it’s back to Fernandes, unmarked on the edge of the area.

It’s a bullet, but always rising, a poor effort, he should hit the target.

GOAL! Brentford 1-0 Manchester United (Dasilva)

That’s a howler from De Gea, Dasilva’s strike squirms through the Spaniard’s guard, it’s awful!

Ronaldo is moaning after the goal, wants a foul in the build-u, but it won’t be given.

United suffer a devastating early blow here after a little more than 10 minutes.

Brentford 0-0 Manchester United

It’s a lively start in Brentford, Ronaldo getting on the ball quickly.

A flick and one-two, then a toe-strike from range, it’s not caught well and skips easily into the hands of Raya.

Manchester United chase Sergej Milinkovic-Savic

Juventus have reportedly agreed to sell Adrien Rabiot to Manchester United for an initial £15million. The Guardian says the discussions over personal terms for the 27-year-old France midfielder are still at an early stage with approval still needed from his agent and mother. The paper notes he has achieved success with five Ligue 1 titles at Paris St Germain as well as another in Serie A, but he also has a uneven discipline record including fines for lateness.

The Red Devils are also said to be interested in Lazio’s Serbia midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who they have been linked with for a number of years. But the Telegraph reports intermediaries believe a deal can actually be done for the 27-year-old.

Premier League latest scores

It’s four at the Etihad, but an own-goal for Lerma might disappoint some FPL players.

Some captained or triple-captained Erling Haaland today, did the move pay off?

It’s five points so far, with 73 minutes enough for two points, plus his assist for Gundogan’s opener.
