A brace from Vinicius Junior earned Real Madrid a 2-2 away draw against Bayern Munich to leave the Champions League semi-final tie finely poised after the first leg.

The Brazilian opened the scoring against the run of play in the first half, collecting Toni Kroos’ defence-splitting pass before cooly slotting past Manuel Neuer.

Bayern, though, turned the game on its head after the break with two second-half goals in the space of four minutes. Leroy Sane smashed home past Andriy Lunin before Harry Kane converted from the spot after Lucas Vazquez hauled down Jamal Musiala inside the box.

But Kim Min-Jae’s late foul on Rodrygo inside the area allowed Vinicius to double his tally for the night from the spot and rescue a late draw for Carlo Ancelotti’s side ahead of the second leg at the Bernabeu.

Glen Hoddle speaking on TNT Sports after the game: “The goals were scored in moments where they didn’t look like they were coming. It is tight between the teams, nicely poised for the second leg.

“I think Real Madrid will be the happier of the teams, they had a little spell in the first half but didn’t have prolonged periods of dominance that Bayern had. That will probably come at the Santiago Bernabeu.

“At 2-1 you’re sitting there thinking the next 10 minutes are important, and they were dominant. But I didn’t really think that they went for the game, and that was the key

“Bayern being at home with the crowd behind them should have gone for the throat. They didn’t and they’ve paid the price.”

A pulsating 90 minutes comes to an end and it remains finely poised heading into the second leg.

Vinicius gave Madrid a first-half lead but Bayern turned things around after a quickfire double from Sane and Kane.

However, the Spanish side will certainly be the happier of the two after Vinicius converted a late penalty - his second of the game - to secure a draw for Carlo Ancelotti’s side late on.
