Of course Arsenal game is important for title - Pep

Arsenal host Manchester City in a rearranged Premier League fixture that will have big ramifications on the title race when the two rivals clash at the Emirates Stadium tonight.

The Gunners have a three-point lead – with a game in hand - over Pep Guardiola’s men ahead of the first league meeting between the sides this season. Mikel Arteta’s side reached the halfway point with a total of 50 points but have dropped five points in their last two games, against Everton and Brentford, leaving the door open for City to chase them down.

The two teams clashed in the FA Cup last month with City running out 1-0 winners and the reigning champions will move to the top of the table should they defeat Arsenal again this evening.

Could tonight’s encounter determine where the Premier League trophy ends up at the end of the season?

Follow all the updates from the Emirates as Arsenal take on Manchester City:

Arsenal 0-0 Man City

21 mins: Chance! That was the moment. Granit Xhaka’s ball into the middle of the Man City box is nodded away by Nathan Ake but Gabriel Martinelli recovers it.

He sends it over to Oleksandr Zinchenko arriving on the left and the left-back whips a beautiful ball back into the penalty area. Eddie Nketiah moves in between Ake and Bernardo Silva before leaping to meet the ball.

He’s got a free header and looks for the far corner but guides the effort wide of the target. Huge chance for Arsenal to go in front.

Arsenal 0-0 Man City

18 mins: There’s been a nice tempo to the start of this match with both sides creating a couple of half-chances. No-one has really had a sight on goal yet.

It doens’t feel as though the match will remain goalless for long though.

Arsenal 0-0 Man City

15 mins: Close! Kevin De Bruyne brings the ball up the right side before setting it off to Riyad Mahrez who drives into the penalty area.

Mahrez feints to the left, rolls back to the right before then flicking a cross over to the back post where Erling Haaland leaves his marker and pokes a snapshot across the face of goal.

Arsenal 0-0 Man City

12 mins: Martin Odegaard whips the ball across the pitch and finds Granit Xhaka in space on the left side. The Arsenal midfielder swings a cross into the middle and looks to pick out Eddie Nketiah.

Nketiah jumps towards the ball just as Nathan Ake throws his head in the way in an attempted clearance. Both men collide and the free kick is awarded to Man City.

Arsenal 0-0 Man City

9 mins: Man City win the first corner of the game but don’t make use of it. They send it short to Ilkay Gundogan who’s cross is charged down and cleared by Eddie Nketiah.

Bernardo Silva is playing a similar role to the one he played against Aston Villa. He’s playing alongside Rodri when City have possession but dropping into the left-back position to defend when Arsenal have the ball.

Bukayo Saka has a run at him and Silva brings him down with a heavy tackle.

Arsenal 0-0 Man City

6 mins: Lovely run from Erling Haaland. He drifts out to the right wing and receives the ball before driving down the line and taking on Gabriel.

He cuts inside of the defender, weaves the ball away from Oleksandr Zinchenko then touches it into the box for Riyad Mahrez. Mahrez pulls it back into the middle wanting a teammate to arrive but Jorginho is well positioned and clears the lines for Arsenal.

Arsenal 0-0 Man City

3 mins: Chance! The first opportunity of the night comes to Arsenal. Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Martinelli both sweep down the inside left channel and combine to work the ball into the penalty area.

It gets passed off to Granit Xhaka who lets fly from the edge of the area and smokes his effort over the crossbar!

Kick off: Arsenal 0-0 Man City

Erling Haaland gets the match underway at the Emirates Stadium. He knocks it back to Nathan Ake who sends the ball across to Jack Grealish on the left wing.

Grealish is pressed immediately by Takehiro Tomiyasu who seems to have been tasked with keeping him quiet tonight.

Arsenal vs Man City

Here come the players.

This is a crucial match in terms of the Premier League title. Whoever wins will take a huge step towards lifting the trophy. If the Gunners are triumphant tonight they will move six points clear of Man City with a game in hand on the champions.

If City win, they’ll draw level on points with Arsenal but will move above them in the table due to their superior goal difference.

Mikel Arteta and Pep Guardiola are old friends but tonight’s they’re rivals hoping to defeat the other. Who will come out on top?

Kick off is up next.

Will De Bruyne regain his form?

Kevin de Bruyne has failed to net in each of his last 13 Manchester City appearances in league and cup. Yet, he’s a man for big games and this is as big as it gets in the Premier League.

If he helps City win tonight, the reigning champions will finish the day top of the table.
