Tom Lockyer describes moments before suffering cardiac arrest during game

Luton Town squandered a three-goal lead to lose 4-3 at Bournemouth as they blew their chance to climb out of the Premier League relegation zone.

It looked so good for Luton on an emotional night as first-half goals by Tahith Chong, Chiedozie Ogbene and Ross Barkley put them in complete control on the south coast.

Bournemouth were booed off at halftime but were stung into action immediately after the break when Dominic Solanke struck and they were level before the midway point of the second half thanks to goals by Illia Zabarnyi and Antoine Semenyo.

Luton were reeling and there was a sense of inevitability about Semenyo netting the winner in the 83rd minute.

The game was re-scheduled after the initial fixture was abandoned after 59 minutes in December when Luton captain Tom Lockyer suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch.

Lockyer was present on Wednesday and received a standing ovation before kickoff as he met the medics who saved his life.

So, Andoni Iraola makes three changes to his Bournemouth XI from the 2-2 draw with Sheffield United as Scott, Ouattara and Sinisterra all in for Kerkez, Kluivert and Tavernier. The bigger news is that leading scorer Solanke is fit despite not training fully this week, while Adams could finally make his debut off the bench following a lengthy lay-off since joining in the summer transfer window from Leeds. For Luton, it's just the one alteration from Rob Edwards from the draw with Palace, with Hashioka in at right wing-back, Kabore slotting into central defence and Gabriel Osho dropping out of the squad.

What happened to Lockyer was a reminder that there are things far more important than football but having him in attendance reaffirms the beautiful unifying aspect football has. So, it's on with the show and Luton are attempting to end a seven-game winless run (six in the Premier League) but did take a point last time out at Crystal Palace thanks a late equaliser from Cauley Woodrow. A win tonight would take Luton out of the bottom three and they face a Bournemouth side who have just one win in eight but have taken four points from their past two games.

This fixture marks the rearrangement of a game that was started on December 16 but was abandoned when Luton skipper Tom Lockyer suffered a cardiac arrest. Thanks to the heroic efforts of the medical team in attendance, Lockyer's life was saved and he was fitted with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator. There are plans for a minute's applause for the team that responded to Lockyer before this evening's game.

Luton have released the following statement: "We all hope and pray for our leader and captain Tom Lockyer, who is thankfully responsive and has been taken to hospital. We don’t know the full extent of what happened and what the next steps are at this stage, but we thank Bournemouth and the medical staff on both sides for their immediate response, which was absolutely amazing. We are sorry to all supporters present that players from both sides were in no state of mind to continue with the game after seeing their much-loved team-mate and friend taken off like that, and staff could not carry on with managing the game in such circumstances having had to deal with the situation. We thank everyone for the wonderful applause and singing of Locks’ name inside the stadium at such a difficult time. Now is the time for all of our players, staff and supporters to come together as we always do and give our love and support to Tom and his family. Our thoughts are with him and them all."
