Interesting Tour de France Facts

Follow all the latest reaction from stage 20 of the Tour de France today.

Slovenian Tadej Pogacar is now poised to win a second consecutive Tour de France title after the Slovenian retained the overall leader’s yellow in the 20th stage, a 30.8-km individual time trial won by Belgian Wout van Aert on Saturday.

Barring a crash in Sunday’s final stage in Paris, the 22-year-old Pogacar will finish ahead of Dane Jonas Vingegaard and Ecuador’s Richard Carapaz, who are set to end up second and third overall, respectively.

Brandon McNulty comes across the line in provisional third place behind Stefan Bissegger and Mikkel Bjerg. Really strong performance there from the American.

Meanwhile, Asgreen is coming up to the second checkpoint having gone fastest through the first.

World champion Michal Kwiatkowski is also around 14 minutes into his effort. The former world champion is an outside bet for today’s stage, although I personally don’t feel like he has a top performance in his legs today.

The Polish rider will be hoping he can produce something special to hand Ineos Grenadiers a first stage of this year’s race.

Feel like the only people I’ve spoken about so far today are Deceuninck-Quick Step riders. This is another of them in Kasper Asgreen. The Tour of Flanders winner will be going full gas today as he looks for Quick Step’s sixth stage win of the race.

So Stefan Bissegger tops the standings after a couple of hours racing but a number of big name time trialists are still yet to go.

Stefan Kung, Wout van Aert, Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar will all be confident they can beat Bisseger’s benchmark of 36 minutes and 37 seconds.

Fred Wright catches and passes former world champion Philippe Gilbert! Clearly the youngest rider in the race is putting everything into it today!

The Brit has impressed in his first Tour de France and has deserved to see Paris.
