Resuming on 116 for five in pursuit of 268 on a final day where Trent Bridge threw open its gates free of charge, England subsided to 178 all out inside 90 minutes despite a defiant 54 from Danni Wyatt.
Wily off-spinner Ashleigh Gardner’s eight for 66 saw her walk away with a 12-wicket match haul as Australia claimed an 89-run victory to collect four all-important points ahead of the ODIs and T20s.
If England are to retrieve the urn for the first time since 2015 they will have to prevail in five of the six white-ball contests against the ODI and T20 world champions, with two points per win on offer.

Oh my. Danni Wyatt is certainly having a go now. She drops to one knee to sweep Gardner away and top edges one ove the keeper for a single.

Danni Wyatt is more aggressive as she smokes Tahlia McGrath into the covers for one. It looked to be heading for the boundary before Jess Jonassen leapt across to stop it.

Lauren Filer is the new batter and sees out the final three balls of Ash Gardner’s 19th over. Danni Wyatt has some thinking to do, England still need 93 runs to win.

Brilliant decision from Ash Gardner to come around the wicket. Sophie Ecclestone strides too far across her stumps, misses the ball and is wrapped on the pads.
It’s plum in all honesty but England review and three reds confirm that Gardner has her sixth wicket of the innings.

Ash Gardner changes the angle and comes around the wicket to Danni Wyatt who pushes her into the offside for one.

Tahlia McGrath continues and draws Danni Wyatt onto the front foot. Wyatt is up to the task and guides the ball through point for one.
Ecclestone flicks one into midwicket but doesn’t beat the fielder. You can feel her wanting to unleash a few more attacking shots. So far though she’s combining attack and defence nicely.
