Mohammed Shami's final-over hat-trick broke Afghanistan hearts as India sealed an 11-run World Cup win at Southampton.

Mohammad Nabi's smart 52 had Afghanistan eyeing the greatest-ever World Cup upset, only for Shami to send him packing - then clean bowl Aftab Alam and Mujeeb Ur Rahman in the next two balls.

Shami's four for 40 and Jasprit Bumrah's two for 39 delivered a bowling masterclass to allow India to defend their paltry 224 for eight from their full 50 overs.

2.1 Afghanistan 6/0 Hazrat Zazai 2 Gulbadin Naib 0 (Target 225)

Mohammed Shami's bowling is absolutely outstanding and it looks like he's finding a little bit of swing after perfecting his line.

Dhoni has his work cut out behind the wicket after already letting one slip for four leg-byes.

BIG SHOUT!

India go upstairs after Shami slams the ball into Zazai's pads. The original decision was not out.

Height may be an issue here.

Fair delivery.

No bat...

Pitching outside of leg. The not out decision stands.

Virat Kohli is very unhappy that he has not been allowed to retain a review after replays showed that was fractionally pitching outside.

The ball was heading right into the middle of the stumps.

4 Afghanistan 12/0 Hazrat Zazai 7 Gulbadin Naib 1 (Target 225)

Edged and away for four for Zazai's first boundary of the day.

5 Afghanistan 16/0 Hazrat Zazai 8 Gulbadin Naib 2 (Target 225)

After three overs Mohammed Shami has conceded just three runs and probably should have one wicket. His line is absolutely perfect and he is working the new ball so well out there. Afghanistan will just want to play things safe as they see off this new ball.

6 Afghanistan 18/0 Hazrat Zazai 8 Gulbadin Naib 4 (Target 225)

India are doing a good job at forcing Zazai to play on the off-side, an area where he often struggles to score runs.

Bumrah continues his fine spell and almost caught and bowls Gulbadin after launching a bouncer his way, but his momentum forced him away.

You sense the Afghanistan captain is getting a little frustrated out there as he lines up an almighty slog and completely misses. Bumrah watches on in dispair as it whistles just past teh stumps.

BOWLED HIM!

Hazrat Zazai b Mohammed Shami

Oh no, what are you trying? Shami's deliveries have been spot on and are going exactly where he wants them to, so why take a chance with a wild swing? That's exactly what Zazai did and now he's walking after the ball clattered into the stumps.

6.3 Afghanistan 20/1 Rahmat Shah 0 Gulbadin Naib 4 (Target 225)

Rahmat Shah joins the action.

8 Afghanistan 26/1 Rahmat Shah 2 Gulbadin Naib 7 (Target 225)

Yuzvenvdra Chahal comes into the attack. He has some act to follow after Shami and Bumrah barely bowled a bad ball between them in the first eight overs.

Is there a better sight for a fast bowler?
