Jake Paul and Tyron Woodley weigh in ahead of rematch

Jake Paul knocked out Tyron Woodley in spectacular fashion on Saturday night, beating the former UFC champion for the second time in four months.

The knockout came in the sixth round of the pair’s boxing rematch in Tampa, Florida, as YouTube star Paul outdid his split-decision victory over Woodley from August, remaining undefeated in the process. Woodley, 39, was immediately more active than he was in the pair’s first fight, but Paul took the centre of the ring, worked his jab well and threw smart hooks to the body. Paul’s best moments came via double-jab set-ups, but the 24-year-old faced some adversity as he was cut on his forehead by an accidental elbow and Woodley landed two heavy right hands in quick succession – to the excitement of the Tampa crowd.

Woodley received a warning in the fourth round for throwing Paul to the canvas to break a clinch, perhaps out of frustration as the internet sensation neutralised more and more entries by grabbing hold of the wrestling specialist. Indeed, there was less and less boxing and increasingly more grappling on display as the fight passed its halfway mark, with those in attendance audibly growing frustrated by the lack of action. That all changed with 48 seconds left in the sixth round, however, as Paul took out Woodley with a sudden, vicious overhand right. Woodley fell face-first to the mat as the bout was waved off, Paul improving his professional boxing record to 5-0.

Jake Paul vs Tyron Woodley: Serrano vs Gutierrez latest

Serrano cruises through the sixth, although Gutierrez’s fight has to be admired. She’s not backing down despite Serrano’s dominance here.

Into the seventh and it looks like Gutierrez has been cut - she’s bleeding around her mouth and Serrano steps in with a further barrage of punches.

She catches Gutierrez flush with a swinging right - but the Spaniard gets out of there as the bell goes.

Logan Paul is in the crowd ahead of his younger brother’s latest fight. “I really believe it would take a miracle for Tyron to win tonight. I’ve never anything like [Jake’s shape]. I think he’ll be out in three.”

Into the fourth and Gutierrez has steadied the ship, even if she’s dropped every round so for. Gutierrez lands a sneaky punch but Serrano’s response is emphatic, immediately turning it on to unload a string of punches and force her onto the ropes. That’s another round for Serrano and a reminder of how quickly she can turn it on.

The fifth is a wonderfully controlled round from Serrano. So comfortable, so dangerous. She’s streets ahead of Gutierrez at the moment, but a knockout is what she wants.

The pace is considerably slower as we begin the third - Serrano keeping her opponent away from her while still managing the land the occasion blow.

Wow - Serrano launches into a huge attack and pummels Gutierrez into the corner in a blur of punches. It’s one-way traffic but Gutierrez withstands the flurry of body blows.

Here comes Amanda Serrano. Jake Paul has signed both Serrano sisters to his promotion company - Most Valuable Promotions - and is pushing to give the Puerto Rican star a bigger platform. If a meeting with Taylor were to take place it next, it is said to be the first time in the history of women’s boxing that would see both fighters would receive a purse of seven figures.

Katie Taylor has confirmed that she will be an interested observer tonight - everyone is hoping that a meeting between the Irish superstar and Serrano could be set up next year.

“I will obviously be interested in the Serrano fight. God-willing she’s a future opponent for me,” Taylor told Boxingscene.com. “My eyes will be firmly focused on that fight.

“That fight [with Serrano] is the biggest women’s fight in the sport and the biggest purse as well. It’s a huge, huge opportunity. I’m obviously interested to see how her fight will go.”

Amanda Serrano: “The fight is very important. She’s a tough, durable fighter. She accepted the task of fighting me. That’s why I’m super focused on this fight only. There’s been a lot of upsets lately. She’s here to do the same to me. I’ve trained super hard because I know she’s a tough girl and it’s going to be a great fight.

“I'm not thinking about Katie Taylor. Gutierrez took Katie to the distance. It’s a tough fight.”

Up next: one of the biggest names in women’s boxing will be back in action as Amanda Serrano takes on Miriam Gutierrez.

If Serrano (41-1-1, 30KOs) claims another victory here, a blockbuster clash with Ireland’s Katie Taylor could be one step closer to fruition.

Serrano and Taylor were meant to meet last May but it was cancelled by the pandemic. We’re close to it being back on, but a Gutierrez upset would be a blow to that.
