Anthony Joshua v Joseph Parker: Tale of the tape

Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

It’s finally time. Anthony Joshua tonight takes on Joseph Parker with no fewer than four world titles on the line.

Joshua's WBA (Super), IBF and IBO world titles will be on the line, as will Parker's WBO belt, in the first ever heavyweight unification fight to held in Britain.

Some 78,000 fans are expected at the Principality Stadium this evening, in Joshua’s third consecutive stadium fight.

Both men head into the contest as undefeated world champions, but Joshua is the overwhelming favourite to win, with lucrative contests against the likes of Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury awaiting the winner.

Povetkin is definitely playing the villain here. His name was announced to a chorus of boos. Here we go...

Round 1

Povetkin was in control for the majority of that first round but Price finished it the stronger. Povetkin will take the round but he was caught at the end by Price's hook and that will give him heaps of confidence into round 2.

With 10 minutes to go to the ring walks, here is how both fighters weighed in yesterday...

Round 2

If Price is going to win this then it might have to be via KO. Already Povetkin is demonstrating his control and power and throwing some heavy punches. Price has used his jab well so far though and managed to get a couple through the gates.

Round 3

Oh no... Price landed two of three really nice shots then which seemed to stun Povetkin briefly... and I mean briefly, because Price had his back on the canvas seconds later. He beat the ground with frustration and beat the count but he's been cut now as well.

BUT WAIT!

A HUGE HIT at the end of the round by Price has sent Povetkin crashing back into the corner with a massive left hook! What a round and what a fight we have on our hands!

Round 4

A quieter round by comparison but one that Price probably just about edged. His superior reach and jab is causing problems for Povetkin, who was expected to breeze through this fight remember.

IT'S OVER!

Povetkin wins in the fifth!

The Russian hits Price with a right and the Liverpudlian was out on his feet. His guard dropped and he was done, seemingly stopping, but Povetkin still hammered him with a huge left - a free shot in truth - and Price came crashing to the canvas in a sickening fall.

The paramedics are with him now in the ring but he's on his feet.

The slow motion replay is being shown on the big screens and it's a sickening shot. A really sad way for it to end in what was a good performance from Price.

Povetkin's camp really know how to play the villain. They're in the middle of the ring waving their oversized flag to a chorus of boos from this Welsh crowd.
