Day two of Donald Trump's impeachment heard how close Mike Pence was to being "executed" and Nancy Pelosi came to being "murdered" before they were evacuated from the Capitol building to a safe location.
Never before seen security footage showed Republicans and Democrats alike running for their lives, with Mitt Romney and Chuck Schumer shown on camera fleeing through corridors to find a safe place to hide.
Julian Castro said Trump "left them for dead" as Trump's provocations of a "stolen election" added fuel to the fire of the riots.
House managers began the second day the impeachment trial with Donald Trump's own words as they showed tweet after tweet and played video after video of the ex-president's messaging to supporters that threw "kerosene on the flames".
Democrats Madeline Dean, Ted Lieu, Jamie Raskin, Eric Swalwell and Stacey Plaskett walked Senators through a forensic retelling of the timeline to show how Trump actively "helped plan" the march on the Capitol.
The trial heard the Proud Boys followed Trump's calls to "stand back and stand by" while videos from the Save America Rally showed supporters yelling "invade the Capitol".
Dean broke down in tears as she remembered the moment rioters banged on the House chamber door: "For the first time in more than 200 years, the seat of our government was ransacked on our watch.”
The trial is adjourned until Thursday.

Ashli Babbitt seen in security footage before being shot and killed
Moments before she became the first fatality of the Capitol riot, Ashli Babbitt was shown in previously-unseen security footage approaching the House chamber.
“Minutes later at 2:44 pm, Ashli Babbitt attempted to climb through a shattered window into the House lobby,” says Eric Swalwell.
“To protect the members in the lobby, an officer discharged his weapon and she was killed.”
Swalwell then showed video of Babbitt being shot and killed.
Mike Pence’s narrow escape thanks to Capitol officer Eugene Goodman revealed in new video
The Independent's Alex Woodward has more on Mike Pence's narrow escape.
House impeachment managers showed previously unreleased security footage from inside the US Capitol during the 6 January insurrection, including footage of former Vice President Mike Pence and his family evacuating the US Senate chamber from an adjoining office, as another video shows Capitol Police Officer Eugene Goodman leading a mob away from the chamber doors.
In another video, Officer Goodman also can be seen directing Senator Mitt Romney to safety as he ran to respond to a breach.

Eric Swalwell back to deliver more evidence
"Uncertain what would happen next, I sent a text message to my wife. 'I love you and the babies. Please hug them for me’, he says.
“I imagine many of you sent a similar message."
Mitt Romney flees for his life and Proud Boys smash into Capitol in disturbing new video
Senator Mitt Romney was seen running for his life after Proud Boys and other rioters smashed their way into the US Capitol in previously unseen video footage.
The footage, taken from the Capitol security footage and containing no sound, showed the Utah senator, running down a corridor, told to flee by Capitol Hill police officer Eugene Goodman.

Nancy Pelosi evacuated from Capitol complex as mob sought to ‘harm or kill’ the speaker, says Plaskett
“The chilling evidence shows that on January 6, armed and organized insurrectionists trained their sights on speaker Pelosi, they sought out the speaker on the floor and in her office, publicly declared their intent to harm or kill her, ransacked her office and terrorised her staff,” says Stacey Plaskett.
“And they did it because Donald Trump sent them on this mission. As the insurrectionists got closer, Capitol Police rushed the speaker from the House floor at 2:15 pm, mere minutes after the Capitol was first breached. They recognized immediately that she was in danger.”
Plaskett said the threat was so dangerous that Capitol Police evacuated her entirely from the Capitol complex, rushing her to a secure off-site location.
“The insurrectionist’s intent to murder the speaker of the House is well documented in charging documents that are now available,” she said.
“We know from the rioters themselves that if they had found speaker Pelosi, they would have killed her.”
‘Trump knew’: Stacey Plaskett argues ex-president had ‘pattern and practice’ of encouraging violence
A Democratic impeachment manager prosecuting Donald Trump for his role in inciting a riot at the US Capitol on 6 January argued that the former president willingly engaged his violent supporters over several months.
The violence did "not just appear" at the Capitol building, said Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett in her remarks to the US Senate on Wednesday.
"Trump knew the people he was inciting, he saw the violence they were capable of, and he had a pattern and practice of praising and encouraging that violence – never, ever condemning it," she said.
By the time his "cavalry" of supporters arrived in Washington DC, "he had reason to know they were armed and willing to fight," she said.

Plaskett shows how close mob got to Mike Pence in attempt to ‘execute’ vice president
“You can see vice president Pence and his family quickly move down the stairs,” say Stacey Plaskett.
“As Pence was being evacuated, rioters started to spread throughout the Capitol. Those inside helped other rioters break in through doors in several locations… and the mob was looking for vice president Pence because of his patriotism. Because the vice president had refused to do what the president demand, and overturn the election results.”
Plaskett says during the assault, extremists coordinated online how they could hunt down Pence, while journalists reported rioters saying they were looking to “execute” the vice president.
“Trump supporters had erected a gallows on the lawn in front of the Capitol building, another group of rioters chanted, ‘hang Mike Pence’, as they stood in the open door of the Capitol building,” she says.
“You can hear the mob calling for the death of the vice president of the United States.”
Mitt Romney shown running for his life in disturbing new footage
“In this security footage, you can see officer [Eugene] Goodman running to respond to the initial breach,” says Stacey Plaskett.
“Officer Goodman passes Senator Mitt Romney and directs him to turn around in order to get to safety.”
Capitol Riot compared to September 11
“When I first saw the model that was created for this, I thought back to September 11th, I know a lot of you Senators were here, some of you might have been members on the House side, I was also here on September 11th,” says Stacey Plaskett.
“This year is 20 years since the attacks of September 11th, and almost every day I remember that 44 Americans gave their lives to stop the plane that was heading to this Capitol building. I think them every day for saving my life and the life of so many others.”
Prosecution plays security footage from inside US Capitol as mob
“As the video begins we are seeing the inside view as the mob approaches from the outside and beats the windows indoors,” says Stacey Plaskett.
“A lone police officer inside responds and begins to spray the first man who enters, but is quickly overwhelmed.”
