Donald Trump lashed out at the Supreme Court after they ruled the ex-president must hand over his tax records to the Manhattan district attorney, paving the way for a New York grand jury to review his financial records.

The move served as a post-presidency defeat to Trump, who has for years battled to keep his tax records private, and paves the way for a New York grand jury to review his long-sought financial records.

In a long-form response posted to Gab, Trump said it was a continuation of his "political persecution" that wasn't justice, but was "fascism".

It came as Joe Biden announced he would lower flags at half-mast for five days to mark the US Crossing half a million Covid deaths, almost 90,000 of which have occurred in the month since he took office. Biden held a moment of silence and candle lighting ceremony at the White House on Monday night to mark the grim milestone.

Almost half of Republicans would leave to join a new Trump party

Former US president Donald Trump still commands the loyalty of Republican supporters despite facing a second impeachment trial for allegedly inciting a riotous mob that stormed the US Capitol building in January, a new poll has found.

Reaffirming the thumping support that Mr Trump enjoys among GOP voters, Sunday’s results of the Suffolk University-USA Today survey found that nearly 46 per cent of the respondents would abandon the Republican party and support a new one floated by Mr Trump.

“We feel like Republicans don’t fight enough for us, and we all see Donald Trump fighting for us as hard as he can, every single day,” Brandon Keidl, a 27-year-old Republican from Milwaukee, said in an interview after being polled. “But then you have establishment Republicans who just agree with establishment Democrats and everything, and they don’t ever push back.”

Joe Biden will mark the US crossing 500,000 lives lost from Covid-19 with a moment of silence and candle lighting ceremony at the White House.

The nation is expected to pass the grim milestone on Monday, just over a year after the first confirmed US fatality due to the novel coronavirus.

The White House said Mr Biden will deliver remarks at sunset to honour those who lost their lives. He will be joined by first lady Jill Biden and vice-president Kamala Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff. They will participate in the moment of silence and lighting ceremony.

Judge who blocked Trump travel ban had US Marshals camped outside his home for protection

CBS News’ 60 Minutes has shared a clip of its coverage of Judge James Robart, who was forced to have US Marshals set up camp at his home after issued a temporary block to Donald Trump’s Muslim travel ban back in 2017.

After his home address and phone number were posted online, and Mr Trump publicly criticised him as a “so-called judge”, Mr Roban received countless death threats from Trump supporters.

Chris Hayes, a news anchor on MSNBC, commented: “This is an under-acknowledged feature of Trump-era right wing politics. Anyone who becomes publicly associated with opposition to his movement faces immediate, serious security concerns. It’s widespread.”

Former Trump advisor says Texas power outages are consequence of electing Biden

Donald Trump’s former economic adviser has claimed that the Texas winter storm power outages are “the consequences” of Joe Biden being in the White House.

Millions of residents of the Lone Star state were left without power, heat and water after it was pummelled by the record-breaking freeze.

Mr Kudlow was happy to blame it on Mr Biden, who has been president for one month, but he did not try and explain how the president had caused the unprecedented grid failure.

Biden takes swipe at Trump with tweet about ‘listening to the scientists'

Joe Biden has tweeted a video in which the president listens to Dr Anthony Fauci deliver a presentation about the coronavirus and the vaccines designed to combat it.

“When I said I would listen to the scientists as president, I meant it,” Mr Biden tweeted, in a subtle swipe at his predecessor Donald Trump, who infamously paid little heed to health experts, even amid a devastating pandemic.

Ted Cruz under fire after Texas winter storm ‘photo op’

Former US President Donald Trump had reportedly offered North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un a lift home on the Air Force One after a summit in Hanoi in 2019, according to a new BBC documentary.

Mr Trump’s meetings with Mr Kim were among the most eye-catching moments of his presidency, culminating in the former president declaring his love for the North Korean leader after a summit in Singapore in 2018.

He told a crowd at a campaign rally: “He wrote me beautiful letters and they’re great letters. We fell in love.”

Trump Jr posts bizarre video in front of wall of guns

Donald Trump Jr has posted a bizarre video in which he rants about the closure of schools during the coronavirus pandemic while stood in front various guns mounted on a wall.

At the very least, it would appear in bad taste to stand in front of guns while shouting about schools during an era of regular school shootings.

Pentagon reviews Trump decision to relocate Space Command from Colorado

The Pentagon will review Donald Trump’s last-minute decision to relocate US Space Command from Colorado to Alabama, it has announced.

The move, which the ex-president signed-off on one week before he left office last month,  blindsided Colorado officials and raised questions of political retaliation, reports the Associated Press.

Mr Trump had hinted at a 2020 rally in Colorado Springs that US Space Command would stay at Peterson Air Force Base in the city.

Biden will likely be forced into pulling Neera Tanden nomination

It is looking increasingly likely Joe Biden will have to pull his nomination of Neera Tanden to lead the Office of Management and Budget after Republican senator Susan Collins said she would vote against the former government official.

Ms Collins said Ms Tanden had “neither the experience nor the temperament” to lead the agency, in light of excoriating tweets she would often send about lawmakers.

Democrats need to find a Republican vote for Ms Tanden after Democratic senator Joe Manchin announced he would also not support her nomination.
