Your support makes all the difference.President Joe Biden has backed his Office of Management and Budget director nominee Neera Tanden after a vote confirming her appointment has been delayed.
Ms Tanden - who previously worked for President Barack Obama - has faced criticism from Republicans over her previous comments on social media and statements about Mitch McConnell.
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said the administration didn’t see it as a setback, and that they were continuing to fight for her nomination. “It’s a numbers game, right, it’s a matter of getting one Republican to support her nomination. We’re continuing to do that outreach,” she said.
It comes as Psaki defended the Biden administration’s reopening of a migrant facility for children after Democratic congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez joining the GOP in strongly criticising the move. Taking to Twitter, AOC said: “This is not okay, never has been okay, never will be okay - no matter the administration or party.”
Mr Biden has previously called the child camps on the US-Mexico border “horrific” and promised during his 2020 election campaign to end the use of the facilities but The Washington Post reports that one centre in Texas is being reopened due to capacity issues at other facilities caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, veteran Utah Republican senator predicts that Mr Biden’s predecessor in the Oval Office would win the 2024 presidential nomination for the GOP, if he chose to run. “I don’t know if he’ll run in 2024 or not, but if he does, I’m pretty sure he will win the nomination,” Mr Romney told The New York Times.
If he does run, Trump may get the band back together. GOP rep Jim Banks says a group of conservative lawmakers met with Mike Pence to discuss a political action group to defend the Trump-Pence record. "He spoke very favourably about his relationship with President Trump," Banks told CNN. "I got the sense they speak often.”

'I would do it again tomorrow’
A Kentucky couple has been arrested for their alleged involvement in last month’s Capitol riots after the woman boasted in a TV interview that she would have no hesitation doing it again.
Lori Ann Vinson and Thomas Roy Vinson were arrested on Wednesday on charges of entering the building, demonstrating and disruptive conduct in the Capitol on the day of riots.
Ms Vinson told 14News on 14 January, according to the criminal complaint: “I would do it again tomorrow. I felt like I’ve done nothing wrong and I wouldn’t change it.”

GOP rallies against Democrats’ pandemic relief package
President Joe Biden’s proposed $1.9 trillion Covid-19 relief bill is unlikely to get any Republican votes, but the Democrats are poised to push the sweeping package through the House on Friday.
By late Wednesday, not one Republican in either chamber had publicly said he or she would back the legislation.
“I haven’t seen a Republican yet that’s found something in there that they agree with,” said House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif.
“I think all Republicans believe in three simple things: They want a bill that puts us back to work, back to school and back to health. This bill is too costly, too corrupt and too liberal.”
The hardening opposition suggested that Biden’s first major legislative initiative could encounter unanimous GOP opposition, but Democrats showed no signs of backing down.
“If congressional Republicans want to oppose all that, my response is: Good luck,” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said on the Senate floor.

Obama backs reparations for the first time and slams ‘politics of white resistance’
Barack Obama backed the reparation of Black Americans for the first time, calling it “justified” but blamed “politics of white resistance and resentment” as the reason for not being able to push it during his presidency.

Biden overturns Trump visa ban, reopening US to thousands of legal immigrants and their families
Joe Biden has rescinded a ban on thousands of illegal immigrants and their families from entering the United States though the visa application process.
The ban was originally introduced by the Trump administration last year, and blocked a number of green card applicants and their immediate families from entering the country.
The US president, rescinding the ban on Wednesday, said he believed his predecessor’s reasoning was wrong and that the ban on certain visa applicants was preventing families from reuniting in the United States and harmed businesses.
“To the contrary, it harms the United States, including by preventing certain family members of United States citizens and lawful permanent residents from joining their families here,” Mr Biden wrote. “It also harms industries in the United States that utilise talent from around the world.”

White supremacist presence within military ‘detailed in new Pentagon report’
A new Pentagon report on extremism has revealed that several white supremacists have been active in the US military.
The report, obtained by Roll Call, which was commissioned by Congress and dated October 2020, details instances of former military personnel speaking openly about their white supremacist views while serving.
One example featured in the report was a former National Guardsman, who has ties to a neo-Nazi group, bragging about openly espousing his white supremacist views while serving in the military.
The former guardsman did this in the extremist “Iron March” online forum in 2016, telling another member: “I was 100 per cent open about everything with the friends I made at training. They know about it all. They love me too cause I’m a funny guy.”

730,000 Americans filed initial jobless claims last week
730,000 Americans filed initial jobless claims during the week ending 20 February, in what was a significant drop from the 841,000 in the 7 days prior.
According to a release from the Labor Department on Thursday, last week was the first time in close to two months that initial claims were below 800,000.
Although claims have fallen from the record 6.8 million that were recorded in March 2020 at the start of the coronavirus pandemic, last week’s figures still remain higher than the 665,000 peak during the 2007-09 recession.
The figure has been higher than during the recession for 49 weeks in a row now, as the pandemic has shuttered several industries.
Biden revokes Trump orders on 'anarchist' cities and more
Joe Biden formally revoked a series of presidential orders and signed by Donald Trump, including one that sought to cut funding from cities he deemed as “anarchist” havens.
In September 2020, Mr Trump issued a memorandum that sought to identify municipal governments that permit “anarchy, violence and destruction in American cities,” following widespread protests for racial justice and in opposition to police brutality.
The orders also included one that mandated that federal buildings should be designed in a classical aesthetic and another that limited the ability of federal agency employees in making regulatory decisions.
Mr Biden has revoked several orders from Mr Trump since taking office on 20 January, as he has tried to implement the goals of his administration.

‘Sickening, pathetic, unimaginably cruel’
Politicians have rallied round congresswoman Marie Newman after Republican Marjorie Taylor Green - who has previously spread baseless QAnon conspiracy theories - misgendered the lawmaker’s trans-daughter.
Ms Greene had a sign outside her office saying “there are TWO genders” and followed-up on Twitter to tell Ms Newman “your biological son does NOT belong in my daughters’ bathrooms”.
The viral exchange came after Ms Newman placed a transgender flag outside Ms Greene’s office after the Georgia Republican motioned to adjourn a vote on the anti-discrimination bill.

Dr Anthony Fauci urges Americans to get a Covid jab
Dr Fauci told NBC on Thursday a third vaccine becoming available “is nothing but good news” but encouraged Americans not to hold off on getting the Johnson & Johnson vaccine while waiting for the slightly more effective Pfizer or Moderna shots.
US regulators announced Wednesday that Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose vaccine offers strong protection against severe COVID-19 and is likely to be approved by the FDA in the near future.
The infectious disease expert said it’s a race “between the virus and getting vaccines into people” and “the longer one waits not getting vaccinated, the better chance the virus has to get a variant or a mutation.”
The predominant coronavirus variant in the United States is from Britain. Dr Fauci says the vaccines distributed in the U.S. “clearly can take care of that particular strain.”
