US Midterms 2018: The five big questions

Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The US is just four days away from the 2018 midterm elections on 6 November and races around the country are heating up.

Democrats are attempting to gain control of the US House and Senate in the wake of a contentious, partisan battle over the newly-confirmed Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

There are several state and local races of importance, too, as the parties square off for control of state legislatures and local city councils.

A new report revealed the Koch political network, a Super PAC tied to the billionaire Koch brothers, has spent nearly $400m on the crucial 2018 midterm elections.

According to ReadSludge, “The most spending, over $2.5 million, has come in the Tennessee Senate contest, in which Republican Rep. Marsha Blackburn, faces Democratic former governor Phil Bredesen in the race to fill retiring GOP Sen. Bob Corker’s seat.”

I don't know what for, but I don't think he's going to be able to do anything productively with the federal government. And I will be able to do that."

The lawmaker previously stirred controversy when he previously warned voters not to "monkey this up" by voting for Mr Gillum.
