And while all eyes might have been on Cardi B’s 24-year-old Mugler dress and Joy Villa’s pro-Donald Trump statement dress on the red carpet, it didn’t take long for the gaze to drift upwards to the headwear adorning several attendees’ heads.
Aside from the awards, performances, and notable no-shows from Ariana Grande and Childish Gambino, the occasion served as the perfect platform to celebrate bold, oversized and bejewelled hats and headpieces.
Janelle Monae teamed her burgundy and white tulle dress with a plastic hat, which she titled to a 90-degree angle, adn featured a veil of gold safety pins.
Meanwhile, Jennifer Lopez sported a wide-brim hat with a giant crystal band to match her embellished high-neck Ralph & Russo white dress hot off the runway.
