From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Joy Villa arrived at the Grammys red carpet wearing a pro-Donald Trump statement dress.

The singer donned a silver US border-wall inspired dress designed by Designers Allinger of Desi Designs with “Build the Wall” emblazoned on the back and a matching spiky headpiece.

Villa completed the political look with a red handbag bearing President Trump’s campaign slogan “Make America Great Again”.

The look was met with surprise on social media.

“What a disrespectful dress,” one person tweeted in response to the singer’s outfit choice.

This is not the first time the American singer has decided to use the Grammys as a platform for her political statements.

Last year, Villa wore a pro-life gown decorated with a foetus and a “choose life” handbag.

In 2017, she also used the red carpet to show her support for President Trump, with a red, white, and blue “Make America Great Again” dress.

The singer was not alone in making a political statement with her outfit.

Singer Ricky Rebel donned a pro-Trump Jacket for the 61st annual awards show, which has ”Keep America Great” written on it.
