Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The world’s 32 best Fifa players have gathered in London to play for the chance to be crowned world champion at the 2019 Fifa eWorld Cup.

Alongside the trophy and bragging rights, the winner will also take home a $250,000 (£210,000) grand prize.

The tournament takes place over three days at the O2 in London, from 2-4 August, with 16 of the players on Playstation and 16 on Xbox. The best of each stream will meet in the final, for a two-legged match to decide the world champion.

Those taking part are the best of the best when it comes to Fifa, meaning any of the players has a legitimate chance of taking home the winner’s trophy.

Brief foray here for the rap battle competition, where four freestylers go head-to-head. They're alright! Though it's hard to convey rapping through the form of a live blog...

(Some technical problems here as Deekayy's microphone isn't working...)

Here's how the rest of the final looks after that match:

So now we're into the PlayStation final.

It's MoAuba vs nicolas99fc.

They're both veterans. But neither of them have ever been to the final before.

Nicolas is probably the favourite. But this should be a good match.

Bit of a delay here as MoAuba goes to wash his hands because his controller is too sticky...

Andrew Griffin4 August 2019 16:10

Nicolas won when these two played in the group stages. But as the previous semi-final showed, those group stages aren't a great guide to how the later matches might go...

We're off.

Nicolas99fc scores!

Almost immediately, the Argentinian smashes it in. It's 1-0 already, and we're less than 10 minutes into the first leg.

Andrew Griffin4 August 2019 16:13

MoAuba scores. 1-1.

Just four minutes later, without Nicolas touching the ball, MoAuba pulls it back.

MoAuba scores againHe's now 2-1 up.

This match looked like it was going to go the way that everyone had suggested: an easy win for nicolas99fc, easily the PlayStation favourite. But in the last few minutes everything has turned upside down, and MoAuba is now in control.
