Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The world’s 32 best Fifa players have gathered in London to play for the chance to be crowned world champion at the 2019 Fifa eWorld Cup.

Alongside the trophy and bragging rights, the winner will also take home a $250,000 (£210,000) grand prize.

The tournament takes place over three days at the O2 in London, from 2-4 August, with 16 of the players on Playstation and 16 on Xbox. The best of each stream will meet in the final, for a two-legged match to decide the world champion.

Those taking part are the best of the best when it comes to Fifa, meaning any of the players has a legitimate chance of taking home the winner’s trophy.

This had looked to be an incredible upset. But the undefeated Msdossary looks set to keep that status, to take it 3-2 on aggregate.

There's just 30 minutes for Rafsou to try and claw this back.

Andrew Griffin4 August 2019 15:40

A big pause here for both of the players.

Andrew Griffin4 August 2019 15:42

20 minutes left for Msdossary to be just one more match away from making history.

GOAL. Msdossary scores to make it 4-2 overall.

There's just 10 minutes left for Rafsou to try and get this back.

Andrew Griffin4 August 2019 15:44

Rafsou is doing as much as he can here. But it doesn't seem to be enough.

Andrew Griffin4 August 2019 15:45

GOAL. RAFSOU SCORES. It's now 4-3 to Msdossary overall.

There's only half a minute left in the game. But could Rafsou bring it back?

Andrew Griffin4 August 2019 15:46

Rafsou doesn't look very confident that he can bring this back. But of course anything can happen...

Andrew Griffin4 August 2019 15:47

FULL TIME. Msdossary wins.

He's through to the final.

What a final it has been, though. This could easily have gone the other way – and he didn't lose so much as finally relenting to Msdossary's unparalleled confidence.

Andrew Griffin4 August 2019 15:48

Among other things, this match makes Msdossary the back-to-back Xbox champion.

But most importantly it means that only one other play stands in the way of him becoming back-to-back world champion.
