The year 2004 was big in terms of pop culture – Friends came to an emotional end and in its place we were given Regina George and Cady Heron in Mean Girls. Meanwhile, Facebook and Gmail had just been launched.
It was also the year that pop star Britney Spears was at the fore – she released Toxic, which was a longstanding chart-topper.

But she also launched her debut perfume collection, which is widely considered the OG celebrity fragrance range – and sales of it have soared in the wake of the release of Framing Britney Spears.
The film by The New York Times – which has become one of Sky’s most-watched documentaries – predominantly provides a chronological account of Spears’s life and explores the singer’s troubling rise to fame, her treatment by the media, her conservatorship and court battles with her father, and the subsequent #FreeBritney movement.
Rather unexpectedly, fragrance retailers have seen a surge in the popularity of her range.
Fragrance Direct reported a 335 per cent increase in sales compared to February 2019. Similarly, The Perfume Shop has revealed sales are up by 439 per cent when compared to this time last year, which Andrea Rickard, the retailer’s trading director, credits to fans showing their support to the star after seeing the new documentary.
With more than 30 perfumes in her collection, created in partnership with Elizabeth Arden, Spears’s range has always been a popular choice, with “fantasy”, “curious” and “believe” among the bestselling scents. And many of them cost less than £20.
