On the one hand, we've got new trailers for the year's biggest blockbusters premiering left, right, and centre; on the other, we're being forced to watch what fresh crop of esteemed thespians have traded their dignity for a sack load of moolah.
In that light, it seems as if 2016's commercial theme appears to be, 'Frightening Actors Doing Silly Things While Being Frightening'. We've already seen Christopher Walken living inside someone's closet with a sock puppet as his only friend, and now it's clearly Willem Dafoe's time to shine.
The new Snickers ad, trading on their established tagline, 'You're not you when you're hungry', sees Dafoe recreating one of the most iconic scenes in cinematic history, the moment Marilyn Monroe steps out onto a subway grate and lets her skirt blow into the air in The Seven Year Itch.
And so, we're informed Miss Monroe apparently turned into the star of Antichrist whenever she's a little peckish. An interesting revelation, certainly. And, perhaps, Dafoe's only opportunity to play one of the most legendary stars of screen.
Plus, there's some added Eugene Levy (of American Pie fame) here for kicks, playing a begrudged fan operator exclaiming; "This scene'll never make the cut. Morons."
Dafoe will star in this year's The Great Wall, alongside Matt Damon and Zhang Yimou; a Chinese historical epic and the largest production ever to shoot in the country. The film hits UK theatres 6 January 2017.
