From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. The long-awaited launch date for this year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing has been announced, with just three celebrities still to be revealed in this year’s line-up.

The much-loved latin and ballroom contest will return to BBC One at 8pm on Sunday 7 September.

In the opening programme the 15 celebrities will be paired up with their dance partners, before going off to commence their initial training.

But the news is not likely to be well received by The X Factor camp – Strictly is set to clash with the singing competition over on ITV.

Simon Cowell’s X Factor starts a week earlier than its rival, kicking off on Saturday 30 August at 8pm and at the same time again on Sunday 31 August.

This year’s Strictly sees Claudia Winkleman replace Sir Bruce Forsyth as a co-host alongside Tess Daly. Winkleman previously presented the Sunday night results show.

The celebrity contestant already confirmed to take their turn beneath the glitterball include TV presenter Caroline Flack, Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills, Frankie Bridge from The Saturdays, tennis player Andy Murray’s mum Judy, Blue singer Simon Webbe, TOWIE star Mark Wright, pop star Pixie Lott and former rugby international Thom Evans.

The final three contestants will be revealed live on The One Show on Friday 29 August.
