The “Up” singer is the first celebrity to be announced for the new series of the talent contest, with Judy Murray, Ross Kemp Alan Hansen and The Only Way Is Essex’s Mark Wright among those also rumoured to be joining.
Frankie revealed the news on BBC Breakfast this morning, accompanied by her fellow bandmates.
“I’m such a huge fan of Strictly!” she said. “I’ve always wanted to be a part of the show, it looks like so much fun and the costumes are just gorgeous.
Keen to emphasise that ballroom dancing will be nothing like the moves she displays on stage and in music videos, Frankie added:
“Like so many little girls, I used to take dance lessons when I was in primary school and I really love dancing, but this is going to be so different from anything I have done with The Saturdays.”
The 25-year-old first tasted fame aged 12 as part of S Club Juniors, before auditioning for The Saturdays in 2007.
The five piece have achieved four top ten albums and thirteen top ten singles, including hits such as “Missing You”, “What About Us” and “Ego”.
Frankie will compete against 14 other celebrities for the prestigious glitter ball trophy when the show returns to BBC One this autumn.
