Love Island: Controversial kissing takes places in game of truth and dare

Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Love Island continued tonight, with the fourth series' first recoupling ceremony taking place.

Adam pre-warned Kendall he planned to ditch her, before swiftly bounding off to kiss new partner Rosie by the fire pit. Kendall became the first person to leave the show this year, though three new contestants were teased who will be introduced as a surprise on Sunday night.

Thursday's edition saw the relentlessly spurned Dr. Alex finally get his first date of the series with newcomer Rosie, while Niall and Georgia sat a few feet away from them, getting straight to the meat of any stirring intellectual conversation: how does she feel about chicken dippers?

Clearly, the answer pleased Niall enough, as he launched straight into a kiss, which caused ripples of shock across the villa (that's all it takes).

Cut to Hayley angrily asserting that you "can't trust anyone" and referring to the whole business as a "game", despite having already scolded Eyal for using exactly the same terminology.

A game of 'Truth or Dare' then resulted in the bombshell that Jack would re-couple with Hayley if he had the chance, which ended up with Dani in floods of tears trying to rekindle her relationship with Jack. "It’s not that I don’t like you," she wept. “It’s just I worry because you’re what I know.” Jack was quick to reply: "Sometimes stick to what you know."

Love Island continues weekday nights on ITV2 at 9pm.

In fairness Descartes could never full work out where one's head is at, so what hope does Hayley have?

Christ this is a slow episode, they missed a trick calling it Love Island and not Flesh Puddle

Everyone's feeling nervous ahead of the recoupling ceremony, as getting kicked off the show in week one means not even your local baker will sponsor you on Instagram

Wes recouples with Laura, a purely strategic move

And Alex stays with Samira, the pair having realised they're the only contestants with an IQ in double digits

Essex sticks together. Jack and Dani renew their vows of 'kinda sorta likin each uvver I guess, I dunno early days innit'

A fairly besotted Niall stays with Georgia. I need to see some spurning! Spurn for me, Mallorca!
