Meet the iPhone X

Your support helps us to tell the story

My recent work focusing on Latino voters in Arizona has shown me how crucial independent journalism is in giving voice to underrepresented communities.

Your support is what allows us to tell these stories, bringing attention to the issues that are often overlooked. Without your contributions, these voices might not be heard.

Every dollar you give helps us continue to shine a light on these critical issues in the run up to the election and beyond

Apple just held its biggest event of the year. And it launched its biggest product of the year, the iPhone 8 – before going ahead and announcing an even bigger one, the iPhone X.

There was actually three phones: the cheaper iPhone 8, and the premium and more expensive X.

And that wasn't all – there was also an updated Apple Watch, an even better looking Apple TV, and software updates for most of Apple's products.

Follow along here for all the latest updates from Apple's big event, as well as before and after.

"Thank you for much for creating something that doesn't make me feel old," says the lady below. And from me, thank you Apple, for making an introduction that makes me feel like I'm ageing at double speed.

Jeff Williams, who runs the Apple Watch, is on stage. You'd be forgiven for thinking he might be here to talk about new products. But you'd be wrong: he's rounding up all the announcements from WWDC in June.

Ahhhh! Our first updates. Some changes to the Heart Rate app on the iPhone.

  1. It will give far more detailed information about heart rate, including information on what your resting heart rate is and how long it takes to recover.
  2. It'll detect when you have an elevated heart rate that doesn't seem to be caused by doing activity.
  3. And it'll also be able to tell when it's beating irregularly.

Also announcing the Apple Heart Study. That'll use information from the Apple Watch's heart rate sensor and send it for scientific study.

Ok, here we go: the next generation of Apple Watch.

Apple Watch Series 3. And the teaser video seems to indicate the first feature: cellular built-in. So you'll be able to call people right from your watch. (If, for example, you're surfing, like Apple showed on the teaser.)

"This has been our vision since the beginning. You can go for a run and still be connected. You can leave your phone while you go to the beach. You can receive an important call with just your watch, and the number is the same number as your iPhone. The apps you rely on like Messages just work, and Siri is at your beck and call whenever you want. [...] And third party apps like WeChat work over cellular as well. Coming next month, cellular is going to change the way we listen to music, because with Apple Watch Series 3 and Apple Music, you can stream 40 million songs on your wrist."
