Apple is paying tribute to Steve Jobs. A long quote from him is playing over a black background.

"There's lots of ways to be as a person. And some people express their deep appreciation in different ways. But one of the ways that I believe people express their appreciation to the rest of humanity is to make something wonderful and put it out there. And you never meet the people, you never shake their hands, you never hear their story or tell yours. But somehow in the act of making something with a great deal of care and love, something's transmitted there. And it's a way of expressing to the rest of our species, our deep appreciation. So we need to be true to who we are. And remember what's really important to us. That's what's going to keep Apple ,Apple; is if we keep us, us."

Tim Cook's on stage. "I love hearing his voice, and his inspiring message. And it's only fitting that Steve should open his theatre."

"Steve meant so much to me, and so much to all of us. There's not a day that goes by that we don't think about him. Memories have especially come rushing back as we prepared for today and this event. It's taken some time, but we can now reflect on him with joy, instead of sadness. Steve's spirit and timeless philosophy on life will always be the DNA of Apple. His greatest gift, his greatest expression of his appreciation for humanity would not be a single product. Rather it would be Apple itself. We dedicate this theatre to Steve because we loved him, and because he loved days like this, where he could share his new products with the world. We do so not only to pay tribute to Steve but to inspire the next generation of creators and innovators."

(This is a very touching tribute that is strange for Apple, which generally has a commitment not to looking to the past.)

"Today, we honour him," Mr Cook says. And the audience applauds.

"We're here today to talk about some incredible products. But before we get to that I'd like to take a minute to talk about" the hurricanes that have swept the Atlantic, Mr Cook says. "You're in our thoughts, we send you our strength, you're in our prayers.

"Apple is working closely with relief and recovery efforts" and is making it easy for people to donate through iTunes and the App Store.

"Now let me tell you a little bit about our new home. We'll start moving in Apple Park later this year. But of course such a big move is really more of a process. And the first big step is the opening today of the Steve Jobs theatre. It's the most state-of-the-art purpose built theatre ever, built for events just like this one. Apple Park has been built to reflect Apple's values, in both technology and the environment."

"Apple Park is designed to be seamless with nature. It brings the outside in. It's powered by 100 per cent renewable energy. And in fact we have one of the world's largest on-site solar instillations right here. And just like everything we make, Apple Park has been designed with extraordinary attention to detail, incredible precision and really beautiful materials."

There's a new visitor centre with a special augmented reality exhibition so that you can learn about the campus. And there's a brand new Apple Store inside the Park.
