From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Conor McGregor suffered the second defeat of his UFC career after being submitted by unbeaten UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in arguably the biggest event in the history of the UFC, but the fight descended into chaos immediately after it ended as both fighters were involved in post-match brawls.
A typically acrimonious build-up to the fight, with McGregor ending up in a New York courtroom after he attempted to attack his rival backstage at a UFC event in April, unsurprisingly led to bad blood between the pair, but no one was prepared for the scenes that followed the fight.
After dominating McGregor throughout the first three rounds, Khabib choked McGregor out to force him into submitting, but reacted by jumping over the Octagon fence to confront his teammates, while members from his own stable jumped into the Octagon to attack McGregor. Re-live all the action here.

Scott Holtzman speaks after his win
"Both hands are broken, I'm pretty sure. I've been through a lot of hand injuries. I have a new baby boy, he won't see this now but he will eventually. I had to leave him for training camp, this one's for him.
"I hurt my left hand on the hook in the first round."
Look at that for a finish. Not bad. No Brett Kavanaugh shoutout either, bonus points.
After nearly two years out of the octagon, Conor McGregor returns tonight. UFC boss Dana White admits he didn't know if the Irishman would ever return.
"When a guy makes $100 million you don't know whether he's ever going to fight again," White said.
"Conor made a lot of money, I'm sure he had a lot fun and did what he wanted to do but no matter how much money you make, you can only sit at home for so long before you start to go crazy.
"You can tell this guy's passionate about fighting, he loves breaking records and he obviously loves making money, so he's back."
