From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Swan has broken back! Buzarnescu leads 4-3 and we're back on serve. Could the Briton maybe edge this one out?
Game. Set. Match.
Swan 0-6 3-6 Buzarnescu
Swan goes down in straight sets to Romanian 29th seed Mihaela Buzarnescu, losing 0-6 3-6. Despite flickering with potential in the second set, the youngster simply didn't have enough to get past the experience and skill of her opponent. She's out in the second round but will no doubt take plenty from her two matches here at Wimbledon.
Jamie Murray will defend his Wimbledon mixed doubles title after linking up with former world number one Victoria Azarenka.
The 32-year-old Scot won the title last year with Martina Hingis, who has since retired.
Murray initially said he would miss the mixed event to focus on the men's doubles with Brazilian partner Bruno Soares but has now changed his mind.
"I wasn't actually planning on playing and then I spoke to her coach about it yesterday and she was looking for a partner," Murray told the Wimbledon Channel on Wednesday.
"So I thought, 'Yeah, let's go for it'. She's a great player, she's had so much success and it's a great opportunity for me to play with someone as good as her."
Azarenka, 28, has won the Australian Open singles title twice but is now ranked 87th in the world.
Murray and Soares are seeded fifth in the men's doubles.
Reports that Gerard Pique is set to make an appearance at Wimbledon today. He's one of 80 guests who have been invited to watch the action from the Royal Box this afternoon. With Spain out of the World Cup (and England still in it, FYI), the defender has been unexpectedly freed up. What a treat.
Madison Keys celebrated Independence Day by moving into the third round of Wimbledon.
The American, seeded 10th, made light work of Thailand's Luksika Kumkhum 6-4 6-3.
Croatian Donna Vekic followed up her toppling of fourth seed Sloane Stephens with a 7-5 6-4 win over Rebecca Peterson.
The full report from Katie Swan's second-round defeat by Mihaela Buzarnescu.
Paul Newman reports from Wimbledon:
Wimbledon's commercial director has no issues with Roger Federer pulling off a marketing coup on Centre Court.
Federer drew headlines around the world when he walked onto the court wearing a Uniqlo outfit on Monday for his opening match after ending his decades-long partnership with Nike.
It was the first time the eight-time Wimbledon champion had worn the brand publicly, but organizers said he didn't violate any of their strict rules in regards to using the tournament for marketing purposes.
"I guess it was like a huge reveal, wasn't it?" said Mick Desmond, the commercial and media director for the All England Club. "That's absolutely fine. It's obviously a marketing coup for Roger. ... We set the stage, he's done a reveal."
Desmond said he was not aware of Federer's plans, though tournament staff check all players' kits before the tournament to make sure they don't violate any rules.
"Providing you're adhering to the specifications in terms of the all-white rule and the amount of measurement in terms of branding, then that's fine," Desmond said. "It would have been checked by the club in terms of a technical perspective. From a commercial perspective, that's his business."
Karolina Pliskova won the battle of the former world number ones against Victoria Azarenka.
The Czech, the seventh seed, triumphed 6-3 6-3 in the Centre Court opener and keeps her hopes of a maiden grand slam alive.
Azarenka, who is ranked at 87, is only just getting back to regular action after a custody dispute involving her son but she was competitive throughout, with Pliskova winning the big moments.
Milos Raonic hit 34 aces to beat John Millman of Australia in straight sets and reach the third round at Wimbledon.
The 2016 runner-up won 7-6 (4), 7-6 (4), 7-6 (4) in a match that only featured one break of serve for each player in the second set.
Raonic reached the third round for a sixth straight year, having lost to eventual champion Roger Federer in last year's quarter-finals.
