From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Edmund 1-0 Bolt

A strong start for the British No 1, who breaks at the first time of asking.

In case you missed it, Paul Newman earlier wrote this profile on Broady, which includes an explanation as to why the talented British No. 4 has never represented Great Britain at the Fed Cup.

It has been a good start for the Australian women on day two of Wimbledon 2018.

Ashleigh Barty, the 17th seed, made it to the second round for the first time in her career, beating Stefanie Voegele 7-5 6-3.

Her compatriot Daria Gavrilova was also a winner, getting the better of American Caroline Dolehide 6-2 6-3.

Muguruza 2-0 Broady

Oosh. Broady certainly made her opponent work for this one but, with a sublime looping lob shot, it was Muguruza who ended up on top to break the Briton and pull ahead in this first set.

Samuel Lovett3 July 2018 13:17

Konta 7-5 6-6 Vikhlyantseva

We're into a tiebreaker, with the Russian refusing to role over as Konta attempts to prevent this match from going to a third and final set.

Samuel Lovett3 July 2018 13:19

Muguruza 3-0 Broady

Broady had break point but the Spaniard was having none of it as she fired down a thumping serve to the left of the Briton. The home hopeful got in the return but it was long, taking the game to deuce.

From there, the reigning champion wrapped up proceedings to take the first set to 3-0.

Muguruza 3-1 Broady

At last, a first game for the Brit. She settled it with a fierce serve that Muguruza could only return as far as the net. The home crowd lets out a sigh of relief.

Samuel Lovett3 July 2018 13:26

Del Potro 6-3 6-4 5-3 Gojowczyk

Not long to go now. The Argentine is closing in on a spot in the second round having comprehensively schooled his German opponent today.

Samuel Lovett3 July 2018 13:29

Game. Set. Match.

Konta 7-5 7-6 (9-7) Vikhlyantseva

The Briton has done it. After a closely contested tiebreaker, Konta has booked her place in the next round of Wimbledon. She avoided a third set but no doubt she'll be feeling drained from what looked to be a physically demanding first match.

Nick Kyrgios has just began his Wimbledon 2018 campaign over on Court No. 12.

The unpredictable Aussie is in action against Denis Istomin - who famously defeated Novak Djokovic at the 2017 Australian Open - and it's currently on serve in the first.

And don't forget we sat down with Kyrgios ahead of The Championships for a very revealing interview, which you can read here:
