From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Karolina Pliskova was the final top-10 seed to be eliminated on Monday as she lost to Kiki Bertens in straight sets in one of the biggest shocks of the day.
That means the draw has opened up even more, with Serena Williams ominously creeping back to her best. The 25 seed faces Camila Giorgi second on Centre Court.

*Williams 3-6 5-3 Giorgi
Giorgi moves to 40-15 with a well-placed forehand winner from the net. She sees out the game with another big serve that Williams fails to return.
Williams 3-6 6-3 Giorgi
Giorgi with a fantastic return from a Williams serve. The Italian quickly leapt to her right to meet the delivery and, with a whipped forehand, sent the ball back across the court and away from the American. It was a moment of magic but it ultimately wasn't enough to stop Serena in her tracks as she served out the game to take the first set.
Williams 3-6 6-3 Giorgi
It's been a tight affair so far, with not much separating the two women. We head into a final and third set that will show whether or not Serena remains a force to be reckoned with in the women's game.
*Williams 3-6 6-3 0-1 Giorgi
After losing the first point of this game, Giorgi quickly takes it to 30-15 after drawing an error from her opponent before firing down a 118mph ace. Williams hits back with a winner down the line but the Italian delivers back-to-back serves that the former world No 1 simply cannot return. A great start to this final set.
Williams 3-6 6-3 1-1 Giorgi*
A near-perfect game from Williams, whose only slip-up came with a misplaced forehand that should really have taken the first point. The American seals the deal with a delicious ace down the T.
*Williams 3-6 6-3 2-1 Giorgi
Another double-fault from the Italian. Is the pressure finally getting to her? From there, Serena moves to 30-0 with a forehand winner that has too much whip and pace for Giorgi to deal with. The world No 52 gives it her all but her hopes of holding serve are eventually dashed by a sublime backhand winner from Williams that lands in behind the Italian.
Williams 3-6 6-3 3-1 Giorgi*
Williams is really ramping up the pressure now as she pummels her opponent into submission through her service. Giorgi clings on with a delightful drop-shot that the American fails to return but Serena eventually serves out for the game.
*Williams 3-6 6-3 3-2 Giorgi
Two impressive aces help move the Italian up to 40-15 but another double-fault lets her down. She keeps her cool, though, to draw the error from Williams on the next point and hold serve.
Williams 3-6 6-3 4-2 Giorgi*
Giorgi's returns are struggling to make it over the net as Williams keeps on battering her opponent through her fierce service game. Love-hold. It's a shame to see but the Italian is lacking the intensity and dynamism that underpinned her earlier exchanges in this match.
*Williams 3-6 6-3 4-3 Giorgi
I may have spoken too soon. What a response from the Italian. It was the final point of this last game which really showed what Giorgi is capable of as she rushed to the net before smashing clear a sharp Williams return. The world No 52 demonstrated fantastic anticipation and execution to claim the point and hold serve.
