From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

After Manic Monday proved to not be as 'manic' as predicted, all eyes turn to the women's quarter-finals, where all the top seeds have been eliminated.

Karolina Pliskova was the final top-10 seed to be eliminated on Monday as she lost to Kiki Bertens in straight sets in one of the biggest shocks of the day.

That means the draw has opened up even more, with Serena Williams ominously creeping back to her best. The 25 seed faces Camila Giorgi second on Centre Court.

Williams 0-0 Giorgi

The Italian will serve to get this match up and running.

*Williams 0-0 Giorgi

Ominous start for the Italian. Williams immediately returns the Italian's opening serve with a strong forehand winner that lands right in the left-hand corner of Giorgi's court.

*Williams 0-1 Giorgi

The Italian has a tendency for going big on her second serve and, as a result, is often guilty of double-faulting. It'll be interesting to see how she holds up today against Williams but, on this occasion, she holds serve to take the first game.

Williams 1-1 Giorgi*

Williams' service remains one of the strongest aspects of her game, as Giorgi has just found out. The American quickly fires through her serves to draw level in this first set.

*Williams 1-2 Giorgi

At 30-30, Giorgi fires down her 20th ace of the tournament before hammering Serena with another thumping serve that the American looped upwards with her return. Positioned from the net, the Italian held her nerve to smash clear the winner for the game. A fantastic display of power and precision.

Williams 2-2 Giorgi*

It's going to be interesting to see who breaks first. Both women are remarkably big hitters and so far they're living up to their reputation. Williams, once again, whizzes through her service as the Italian struggles to land her returns.

*Williams 2-3 Giorgi

A quick-fire baseline exchange between the two ends after Williams nets one of her returns. 15-15.  Giorgi seizes the initiative and sends down two aces in quick succession. She drops another point but holds on for serve after pushing Williams further and further out to the right until the American can no longer make the return. Phenomenal stuff from the Italian.

Williams 2-4 Giorgi*

The American finally drops a point on her serve after firing a simple forehand stroke beyond the baseline. She then does it again, and then again, to hand Girogi the break. Williams wins the next point but a high looping return falls ominously in the tramlines to swing momentum in the Italian's favour.

*Williams 2-4 Giorgi

Fantastic discipline from the Italian who fights back from three break points down to bring the game to deuce. Her service has been so key in helping her dictate the run of play.

*Williams 2-5 Giorgi

What a spectacle this is turning into. Giorgi is comfortably matching Williams' power with her baseline strokes on both the forehand and backhand. At break point, she takes the game back to deuce after putting the American on the backfoot before rushing to the net. Williams had no response and could only loop her return wide. From there, Giorgi holds her nerve to see out her serve. 5-2.
