'Why not?' - Hurkacz on chances to win Wimbledon after Halle victory

Follow live reaction from the Wimbledon draw, where Emma Raducanu will face Alison Van Uytvanck in the first round and Andy Murray was paired with James Duckworth after avoiding a seeded opponent.

Raducanu, who was seeded 10th for the draw on what will be her first appearance at Wimbledon since winning the US Open, has been handed a tough first assignment against the Belgian Van Uytvanck. Raducanu won their only previous meeting in Chicago last year but Van Uytvanck is an established top-50 player, currently ranked at 46 in the world.

Murray received a kinder draw. Australian Duckworth, who is ranked 77 in the world, has yet to win a match on the ATP Tour this season. Two-time Wimbledon champion Murray has won both previous meetings with Duckworth and could face American John Isner in the second round.

Defending men’s champion Novak Djokovic will open the tournament against Soonwoo Kwon on Monday while Rafael Nadal, on the other half of the draw, will begin against Francisco Cerundolo. The top seed in the women’s draw Iga Swiatek will open against qualifier Jana Fett.

Follow live updates from the All England Club as the tournament draws are made.

Raducanu handed tough Wimbledon draw as Murray faces Duckworth

Emma Raducanu will face Alison Van Uytvanck in the first round at Wimbledon in what was a far from straight forward draw for the US Open champion, while Andy Murray will face James Duckworth in the opening round after avoiding a seeded opponent.

Remarkably, all 17 British players in the main draw avoided a seeded player, even if Raducanu was handed one of the tougher opening assignments on what is the 19-year-old’s first appearance back at Wimbledon since last September’s US Open triumph.

Raducanu, who was seeded 10th for the draw, will face Belgian Van Uytvanck, who is an established top-50 player, currently ranked at 46 in the world, and reached the fourth round at the Championships in 2018.

Two-time Wimbledon champion Murray, who is expected to be fit for the first round on Monday, received a kinder opening match against world number 77 Duckworth. Murray has won both previous meetings with the Australian, who is yet to win a match on tour this year, and could face American John Isner in the second round.

Elsewhere, Serena Williams was drawn against the unseeded Harmony Tan on what will be her first tournament appearance since last year’s Wimbledon. Williams began her comeback by playing in the Eastbourne doubles with Ons Jabeur this week and avoided the top seeds after receiving a wildcard for the main draw.

Again, a couple of interesting ties there but not too many fireworks. Certainly good draws for Murray, Draper, Norrie and Evans.

Jannik Sinner vs Stan Wawrinka and Felix-Auger Aliassime vs Maxime Cressy are a couple of interesting ones.

Britain’s Paul Jubb getting Nick Kyrgios is a good one too.

Certainly nothing for Nadal and Djokovic to be worried about in the first week.

Wimbledon 2022

That’s a good first-round draw for Murray. Australian Duckworth has hardly been lighting it up on tour this season. In fact, he’s lost all six of his matches according to the ATP and was beaten by world No 227 Paul Jubb at Queen’s last week.

If Murray advances he could face John Isner in the second round.
