2021 Wimbledon Day 12 Recap: Ash Barty Claims Her Second Grand Slam Title

Follow live reaction after Novak Djokovic beat Italian Matteo Berrettini to win his sixth title at Wimbledon on Sunday.

The win - 6-7(4) 6-4 6-4 6-3 - also earned the Serbian world number one a 20th Grand Slam title, equalling the men's record held by Switzerland's Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal of Spain.

The Italian took a thrilling first set on a tie break only for the top seed to roar back to level it in the second and eventually take the title, a third in a row at the All England Club.

Follow all the reaction live:

WIMBLEDON 2021: DJOKOVIC 3-1 BERRETTINI

A fantastic forehand winner down the line takes Berrettini to deuce on Djokovic’s serve. A lovely backhand volley extinguishes the danger, though, and Djokovic consolidates the break.

WIMBLEDON 2021: DJOKOVIC 2-1 BERRETTINI

Djokovic takes Berrettini to 0-30 on serve but is left in disbelief after a backhand down the line sails long. A framed forehand offers the Italian a thundering smash and they’re back to 30-30. A huge forehand looks to have won the point for Berrettini but Djokovic produces yet another stunning backhand return that just dips over the net and Berrettini can’t adjust. A battle of backhand slices follows on break point and Djokovic comes out on top. He has the ascendancy and taps his temple in tribute to his own mental strength.

Djokovic promptly holds to love, too, before the crowd trade chants in support of either player. One set and a game apiece, this final is tantalisingly poised.

WIMBLEDON 2021: DJOKOVIC 5-4 BERRETTINI

Djokovic wins a fantastic battle of slices at 0-30, with the ball barely skidding off the grass. That brings up three set and break points but Berrettini holds his nerve as Djokovic’s passing shot flies way long. Djokovic then can’t return two huge serves and Berrettini is still in this set.

WIMBLEDON 2021: DJOKOVIC 5-3 BERRETTINI

Seizing on the energy of that last point, Berrettini unleashes a series of punishing forehands and brings up two break points. Djokovic saves the first with an exquisite drop shot on the back foot. The second is a touch longer, though, and Berrettini meets it to break!

WIMBLEDON 2021: DJOKOVIC 5-2 BERRETTINI

Berrettini races into a 40-0 lead on serve before a sensational point that seals the hold. After a long rally, he drew Djokovic into the net with a drop shot, which the defending champion lobbed perfectly back over his head. The Italian, scampering on the run, then executes a perect tweener that sails over Djokovic’s head, who in turn attempts one of his own but finds the net. Djokovic responds by attempting one of his own but finds the net. The crowd erupt, Berrettini urges them on, and even Djokovic affords a smile.

WIMBLEDON 2021: DJOKOVIC 5-1 BERRETTINI

Berrettini manages to put Djokovic’s serve under pressure after a loose drop shot by the defending champion. A big serve elicits a forehand error from the Italian, though, and Djokovic is just one game away from squaring this match.

WIMBLEDON 2021: DJOKOVIC 4-0 BERRETTINI

A brilliant forehand winner clips the baseline and Djokovic is utterly dominant in this second set. He holds to love.
