Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Day nine of the Wimbledon Championships sees a whole host of big names in action with Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray and Serena Williams all on court at SW19.

Eight-time champion Federer is back in action on Centre Court against Kei Nishikori where defending champion Novak Djokovic will open proceedings against David Goffin of Belgium.

On Court One it'll be Argentina's Guido Pella and Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain opening things up before Nadal returns to face Sam Querrey of the United States in the final men's quarter-final.

And later on Andy Murray and Serena Williams will be in action too as they continue their much-anticipated mixed doubles campaign.

Andy Murray and Serena Williams in the post-match press conference:

AM: "I thought they played well, they've played quite a bit together I think. We were more up and down then them, they were more consistent.

SW: Overall, [at the tournament], we played really well.

AM: "I've achieved a lot. My hip was feeling good, and it's a lot of physical work now to get stronger. I'm doing some physical testing next week, I did one the week before Queen's... it's 4-6 weeks of training and I'll have some testing after that.

Should there be more mixed doubles on tour?

SW: "It's hard to say. There are so many good matches anyway. It sounds good, but will it work?

On the lack of British players in the latter stages:

AM: "I think a lot of countries don't have a chance at Grand Slams. It's more just not needing to rely on wild cards.

On the divisions in the ATP Player Council:

AM: "The whole situation is a shame. So much in-fighting in the sport. Tennis is doing really well, there should be more positive discussions. There are so many different organisations fighting, I would like to see a bit more unity, there's a lot of division.

On playing with Serena:

"It was just confirmation of how much she wanted it, and how pumped she was getting - I liked that."

On playing with Andy:

SW: "I think to play on this stage with Andy was a lifetime experience. But it's cool to see people on TV and then be on the same side as them."
