Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Follow live coverage from day five at Wimbledon where Andy Murray, Serena Williams, Novak Djokovic and Cori Gauff were all set to be in action.

Murray returned to SW19 for the first time on Thursday evening winning his first match in two years at the All England Club in the opening round of the men's doubles. Today he was set to get his mixed doubles campaign underway with 23-time Grand Slam champion Williams in what promises to be one of the highlights of the tournament. However Cori Gauff, the 15-year-old breakout star of the tournament, saw her match with Polona Hercog on Centre Court go to a third set meaning the blockbuster duo were made to wait.

We'll have all the latest for you throughout the day:

Pliskova's match point....

Kieran Jackson5 July 2019 15:22

*Djokovic 1-2 Hurkacz

Hurkacz takes the opening five points, and the first six out of seven, after Djokovic double faults, but Djokovic then ramps it up to hold.

The Pole is unfazed though, holding himself to 15, and more than matching Djokovic in the longest rally of the match so far.

Kieran Jackson5 July 2019 15:26

Djokovic 2-2 Hurkacz*

Djokovic holds, but it was a test.

The number 1 seed has numerous chances to wrap it up, but can't convert and does have to save a break point, which he does clinically with an ace down the T.

He eventually escapes, as Hurkacz goes wide on return.

Kieran Jackson5 July 2019 15:36

*Djokovic 2-3 Hurkacz

Two double faults from the 22-year-old hand Djokovic a break point, but it's roles reversed as it's saved with an ace down the T.

On break point no.2, Djokovic sets the point up perfectly but misses with a forehand into the net - and take a long hard look at the grass afterwards.

He saves another with a powerful serve, before finally finding his form on deuce, and clinching it with a body serve.

Two holds from the brink of breaks from both players there...

Kieran Jackson5 July 2019 15:42

Djokovic 3-3 Hurkacz*

A more straightforward hold for Djokovic this time round, to 15, as he takes control from the baseline.

Kieran Jackson5 July 2019 15:47

Djokovic 3-4 Hurkacz*

Two similar games, as Hurkacz holds to 15 with some powerful serves of his own.

He's more than hold his own so far has the Pole.

BREAKING NEWS: Kevin Anderson is OUT of Wimbledon, losing in straight sets to Guido Pella of Argentina on Centre Court.

Kieran Jackson5 July 2019 15:50

*Djokovic 4-5 Hurkacz

A hold to love, and a hold to 15...

Djokovic will serve to stay in the first set.

Kieran Jackson5 July 2019 15:57

*Djokovic 6-5 Hurkacz

DJOKOVIC BREAKS!

Djokovic holds to love, and then he cranks it up a gear...

A couple of sloppy errors by Hurkacz, perhaps aware of the occasion, lead to THREE BREAK POINTS for Djokovic at 0-40.

Saved with aplomb by Hurkacz, but after another lengthy rally at advantage, Djokovic forces the error and the defending champion will serve for the 1st set here.

Kieran Jackson5 July 2019 16:07

Djokovic 7-5 Hurkacz*

DJOKOVIC WINS THE FIRST SET!

The Serb just about gets it done... he outlasts Hurkacz again in a long rally at 30-30, but then mistimes another routine forehand into the net at set point.

Eventually though, with two accurate first serves, he clinches the set.
