From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. A vintage display from Roger Federer took him past Rafael Nadal into the Wimbledon 2019 final in an eagerly-anticipated first grass court match between the great rivals for 11 years on Friday.

The 40th career meeting between the golden duo with 38 Grand Slam titles between them, swung this way and that before Federer seized control to claim a 7-61-6 6-3 6-4 victory.

World number one and defending champion Novak Djokovic now stands between the 37-year-old Federer, the oldest finalist here since Ken Rosewall in 1974, and a record-equalling ninth Wimbledon title in Sunday's showpiece

That is.... not great.

*Nadal 5-5 Federer

Federer struggling to time his shots on return, a comfortable hold to 15 for Nadal.

This one has to be heading for a breaker, surely?!

*Nadal 5-6 Federer

Federer guarantees himself a tiebreak, as he holds to love. Again.

Easy work.

Nadal will serve for a second time to stay in the set.

*Nadal 5-6 Federer (40-40)

Out of nothing, from 40-0 to deuce as Federer finally does some damage on return. He gets it to deuce with a classic Federer forehand down the line.

Nadal being made to work.

*Nadal 5-6 Federer (ad Nadal)

Oooohhh a chance for Federer.

He miscues an inside-in forehand. Right shot, but poorly executed.

Nadal 6-6 Federer*

TIEBREAK TIME!

Federer overhits, and we're going to a breaker... it was heading that way for a while.

First to 7...

Kieran Jackson12 July 2019 17:24

*Nadal 6-6 Federer (1-1)

UNREAL SHOT FROM NADAL!

The point looks won when Federer plays a delicate drop volley, but Nadal scampers and make a pass up the line which bang on hits the baseline/tramline corner!

However, the mini-break is wiped out straight away as Rafa nets a backhand.

Nadal 6-6 Federer* (2-2)

Federer nets a return, before Rafa does the same. 2 apiece.

Cliche alert: you could cut the tension with a knife.
