Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Day six of the Wimbledon Championships sees a whole host of big names in action with Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray and Serena Williams all on court at SW19.

Fresh from his epic tussle with Nick Kyrgios, Nadal is back on Centre Court with Jo-Wilfried Tsonga his next foe before Federer continues his campaign against France's Lucas Pouille afterwards.

Britain's Harriet Dart takes on world No 1 Ashleigh Barty before that while 23-time Grand Slam champion Williams continues her march to what she hopes is yet another All England Club title against Julia Goerges on Court One.

Two-time champ Murray will also be in action as he returns for round two of the men's doubles alongside partner Pierre-Hugues Herbert.

*Williams 6-3 1-2 Goerges

Still on serve in this second set.

Goerges is certainly offering plenty of resistance though as she takes this game to deuce with a stunning forehand winner down the line.

Samuel Lovett6 July 2019 13:53

Williams 6-3 2-2 Goerges*

As you were. Williams serves out the game in style, sealing the final point with a forehand winner of her own.

Samuel Lovett6 July 2019 13:54

*Herbert/Murray 3-3 Mektic/Skugor

Herbert holds well from 0-30 down, before a routine hold off Mektic's serve.

A match with very few rallies so far, as both teams look to cross and finish the points off early at the net.

3 apiece.

Kieran Jackson6 July 2019 13:54

Herbert/Murray 4-3 Mektic/Skugor*

Trouble on the Murray serve, as Mektic smashes his second serve for a forehand crosscourt winner at 30-30. The break point is saved though - a serve into the body and a Herbert winner at the net.

Deuce. Herbert overhits a makable smash, and it's another break point but Skugor shanks his return out of court. It proves costly, and Herbert/Murray escape with some solid serving and volleys, and they have the game advantage still...

CENTRE COURT UPDATE

Over at the Barty Darty Party, there's only one person having a party on Centre - Barty is a set and a double break up, 6-1 4-0.

This one looks over already.

Kieran Jackson6 July 2019 14:01

*Williams 6-3 3-2 Goerges

BREAK!

Williams makes her breakthrough at last. On a fourth break point, the American drew the error from Goerges' backhand. Patient and persistent, she was finally rewarded for her efforts.

Samuel Lovett6 July 2019 14:05

*Herbert/Murray 4-4 Mektic/Skugor

Mad point at 30-30! Herbert claws the ball back for a simple volley put-away, but Skugor slips and on the ground volleys into the net! The subsequent break point is saved though, with a serve down the T.

And the Croats escape on Skugor's serve once again - still no breakthrough so far.

Kieran Jackson6 July 2019 14:07

Herbert/Murray 5-4 Mektic/Skugor*

Herbert finds his range on 1st serve, and holds to 15.

Mektic will now serve to keep his pair in the first set.

Kieran Jackson6 July 2019 14:11

*Herbert/Murray 5-5 Mektic/Skugor

A hold to love, Murray and Herbert not having a sniff.

CENTRE COURT UPDATE

BARTY WINS! That didn't take long, 52 minutes in fact. World number 1 Ashleigh Barty is into week two, convincingly beating British wildcard Harriet Dart 6-1 6-1.

Always in control, a tough learning curve for Dart.

Barty will face Alison Riske in the fourth round.
