Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Day five of the Wimbledon Championships promises to be another action-packed one as we edge closer and closer to the business end of the tournament.

Novak Djokovic is back in action with the defending champion taking on Hubert Hurkacz of Poland.

Meanwhile on the women's draw Simona Halep meets Victoria Azarenka in a mouth-watering encounter on Centre Court.

And to finish we'll also Andy Murray and Serena Williams team up for the first time with the blockbuster pair facing off against Andreas Mies Alexa Guarachi.

*Hercog 6-3 6-7 1-2 Gauff

Gauff holds to love, and looks very assured behind her 1st serve.

Here was the scene on Henman Hill as Gauff dramatically won that second set!

Kieran Jackson5 July 2019 19:31

*Hercog 6-3 6-7 1-2 Gauff (40-40)

The pair trade backhand slices at 30-30, until Gauff sneaks in and hits a backhand volley winner bang on the line.

BREAK POINT GAUFF, but she chips a forehand long running towards the net, and we're at deuce...

Kieran Jackson5 July 2019 19:35

Hercog 6-3 6-7 1-3 Gauff*

GAUFF BREAKS!

Two erratic shots on the forehand wing by Hercog sail wide and the 15-year-old has the break in this final set!

Kieran Jackson5 July 2019 19:36

Hahahaha...

Kieran Jackson5 July 2019 19:37

*Hercog 6-3 6-7 1-4 Gauff

Gauff holds to love, and it's one-way traffic at the moment as Hercog isn't given a sniff.

A reminder that Gauff saved two match points in the second set... astonishing.

COURT 1 UPDATE

Felix Auger-Aliassime has dropped the first set to Frenchman Ugo Humbert, 6-4.

The Canadian is up a break in the second though, leading 4-1.

Kieran Jackson5 July 2019 19:41

Hercog 6-3 6-7(7) 2-4 Gauff*

Hercog holds comfortably, pressure back on Gauff.

Two holds, to reach week two.

Kieran Jackson5 July 2019 19:42

Hercog 6-3 6-7 2-4 Gauff* (0-40)

Hercog has suddenly found her range on the forehand wing, and Gauff seems a little nervy - who can blame her?

Three break points for the Slovenian...

Kieran Jackson5 July 2019 19:44

*Hercog 6-3 6-7 3-4 Gauff

HERCOG BREAKS!

We're back on serve in the third set, as Hercog breaks to 15, and she lets out a big roar...

A poor game from Gauff, is the pressure finally showing?
