That’s a big scrum from Scotland and from in particular Fagerson, who wins a penalty for his side to much cheer from his teammates. After leaving him out of my predicted Lions squad earlier this week, I’ll be taking the credit for that one by pumping him up to prove a point. 

Halfpenny takes a high kick nicely and presents clear ball for Davies to go quick. He chips delicately behind the line for Adams to attack, but Brown gets back first to snatch the ball out the air and slide into touch. 

You know what follows. Lineout, wind, not straight, scrum. It’s going to be the order of the day.

Scotland finally secure the lineout and can get an attack going. Kinghorn goes one-on-one with Liam Williams but the Welshman stands up well and makes a nice tackle, and Scotland are camped on the 22. They attack right, and Harris plays a neat inside ball to Hogg, who returns it in a one-two pass to put Harris in … and he drops it! What an error, and that would surely have been the first try of the match there as Halfpenny was struggling to get over in time. As it is, it’s a scrum to Wales.

Scotland get a quick-tap from the scrum and Price goes quickly. Hogg is able to step inside his man and makes a half-break, and that put Wales on the back foot that forces Lewis-Hughes to slow the ball and James Davies to go off his feet in what is a double ping. With the penalty, Russell goes to the corner.

Another penalty goes Scotland’s way as Alun Wyn Jones is punished for tackling Watson around the neck. It’s called a high tackle, but it’s not so much high as dangerous, and Russell finds touch with the penalty just outside the 22. Can you guess what happens next? Yep, it’s not straight, and that’s the fourth one in a row at the lineout.

Graham manages to take possession into touch as he fails to collect the kick-off, but once more the lineout is a mess as Elias and Brown really struggle to get a grip on the wind.

Russell this time lands it and Scotland have the lead!

Brown throws a shocker of a lineout, with the wind playing havoc so far. Eventually Biggar sends it deep, and Hogg returns fire with what looks to be a deep effort, only for the wind to stall the ball and leave it in no-man’s land. Watkins eventually gets a hand to it, but he knocks it forwards and to compound the error Elias takes it in an offside position to hand Scotland the penalty. Russell will go for goal again.

Graham does superbly to take a swirling high bomb, but e does so next to the touchline and is barged into touch immediately. Wales have the lineout, but Scotland pinch possession and break up to halfway, where they win a penalty against Alun Wyn Jones for not rolling away. Hogg, Scotland’s long-distance kicker, turns down the shot at goal and finds touch instead.
