Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

They are going down to the start for the big handicap chase at Kempton, the Close Brothers Handicap Chase, with 17 running. Al Dancer looks likely to go off favourite. We are chancing The Butcher Said, who has been well-backed.
Salty Boy is favourite in the Eidur at Newcastle, and they are about to jump.
Cape Gentleman’s stamina was key there. His trainer was a little worried about the trip but his stamina was enormously important in the closing stages, as Calico travelled like the winner practically from start to finish.
Ten minutes to the big novice hurdle at Kempton. Atholl Street is favourite but Irish raider Cape Gentleman is well-backed at 3.75.
Result: 2:40 Lingfield
1. Forest Of Dean 100-30
2. Felix 3-1.
5 ran.
A muddling race this and Rab Havlin was always well-placed on the winner, who was in command from some way out. Father Of Jazz failed to pick up on this rise in class.
Six minutes to the big one at Lingfield! Father Of Jazz is a little uneasy at 2.76, with Felix 3.55.
What a performance! Tritonic was briefly squeezed down the back but joined his old rival Casa Loupi two out and absolutely burst clear from the last. He is now 5.6 for the Triumph on Betfair.

1. Tritonic 5-6 Fav
2. Casa Loupi 13-2
