Playing with 10 men for most of the game, Brazil held the Ivory Coast to a 0-0 draw on Sunday in the group stage of the men’s Olympic football tournament.
Brazil are the defending Olympic champions after winning on home soil at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games, but they were at a disadvantage early when Douglas Luiz, who plays for Aston Villa, was sent off in the 13th minute.
Ivory Coast midfielder Eboue Kouassi was sent off in the 79th. Both Luiz and Kouassi won’t be able to play in their teams’ final group matches.
The Brazilians won their Group D opener over Germany 4-2. Richarlison scored a hat trick.
Ivory Coast midfielder Franck Kessie scored the winner in his team’s opening 2-1 victory over Saudi Arabia.
Brazil captain Dani Alves, at 38, is the oldest player in the tournament, which features under-23 teams on the men’s side with coaches allowed to bring three older players.

After today’s heats the swimmers for tomorrow’s women’s 100m backstroke semi-finals have been confirmed.
First semi will be: Australia’s Kaylee McKeown, USA’s Regan Smith, Canada’s Kylie Masse, Britain’s Kathleen Dawson, Australia’a Emily Seebohm, USA’s Rhyan Elizabeth White, Netherland’s Kira Toussaint and Italy’s Margherita Panziera.

This comes after his sister Uta Abe won gold earlier this morning in the -52kg judo competition after a win over France’s Amandine Buchardin.

Round-up of men’s football
The second round of group stage matches in the men’s football competition has had a lot of drama so far!
Brazil’s battle with Ivory Coast saw two red cards but no goals as it finished 0-0.
France defeated South Africa in a goal frenzy as the final whistle saw a 4-3 result.
Honduras beat New Zealand 3-2 and Argentina managed a 1-0 win over Egypt.

The match was full of drama, with two red cards and a lot of fouls.
Brazil’s Douglas Luiz saw red in the first half and his team remained in the match and started to push Ivory Coast.
The Ivory Coast continued to keep the gold medal holders out and then Eboue Kouassi was shown a second yellow to even the teams once again.
Brazil came close to scoring in the dying moments but they couldn’t convert.
Both teams are on four points in group D after the second round of the group stage.
