Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Follow the latest updates live from the Isle of Man TT in what is set to be the busiest day in the event’s history.

No fewer than five races have been scheduled for Thursday on top of two additional qualifying sessions as organisers attempt to squeeze in every race this week following the lengthy rain delays. After losing Saturday, Tuesday and Wednesday to rain, action looks set to resume on Thursday with a bumper day of racing, ahead of Friday’s blue-riband Senior TT.

The action kicked off with superbike and superstock qualifying before Peter Hickman took victory in the two-lap supersport race two. The Birchall brothers, Ben and Tom, took their seventh Sidecar TT win with victory in race two, their 10th overall. When racing went back to the solos, there was still no stopping Hickman as he sealed a week hat-trick with superstock victory. Racing continues this evening with the two-lap lightweight race and one-lap TT Zero, with the day rounded out with a one-lap Senior qualifying. Follow the live action below.

What time does it start?

Thursday’s running at the TT begins at 11:50am.

Radio coverage is provided by Manx Radio over the fortnight, while live timing is available through the official www.iomttraces.com website.

RL360 Superstock race

Lap 1: 30-second time penalty for James Hillier for speeding in the pit lane! That ends his podium hopes.

Lap 2: It's hard to explain how impressive, given the lack of running, that 132mph lap from Hickman is off a standing start and slowing down for the pit lane. You never know, next time around the superstock lap record might be within reach.

RL360 Superstock race

Lap 2: Harrison's taken two seconds out of Hickman in the pits and another second on the run to Glen Helen to cut the lead to 5.812s. Dunlop is only two seconds ahead of David Johnson in third, with the Honda Racing rider enjoying his best outing yet.

Lap 2: More pit-lane speeding penalties to dish out as Dominic Herbertson and Horst Saiger are penalised along with Hillier - who has dropped fown to eighth as a result.

Lap 2: Hickman's pulling away again as he adds a second to the lead on the run to Ballaugh.

Lap 2: The battle for third is heating up nicely, as Dunlop only leads Johnson by 2.4s with Cummins and Rutter both within 12 seconds of the podium.

RL360 Superstock race

Lap 2: It's hard to see where Harrison is going to claw this back as his part of the track has always been the run to Ramsey, yet Hickman is only growing stronger throughout the first half of the lap. He reaches the Hairpin with a nine second lead, though gets a stark reminder of the dangers that remain as he loses the back end on the exit and has to quickly shut it off to catch the BMW before heading off for the Mountain.

Lap 2: Dunlop remains third, 3.6s ahead of Johnson.

Lap 2: Hickman is blowing the opposition away here as he's 13.1s clear at the Bungalow, with all signs suggesting that gap will only grow. Johnson meanwhil has clawed back a little on Dunlop.
